A Note from our Principal
Dear Parents,
I can’t believe it is already March! Time sure flies around here! This week we are celebrating Read Across America Week. I look forward to it every year! Reading is near and dear to my heart and I love seeing the students enjoy it as well. If you would like to be a guest reader this week, please notify your child’s teacher. We would love to have you visit and read to your child’s class.
I need to remind you of a couple of things. First, please send a seasonal change of clothes in your child’s backpack. Students not only have accidents but, they also have spills or messy art projects that require a change of clothes. It will save you a trip of having to bring clothes to school if something happens. Next, please make sure your child's breakfast/lunch account stays current. We have a very high balance of unpaid meals for this campus. If you would like to apply for free/reduced lunches, there is an application attached to this newsletter.
As the weather warms up, we will be gathering our lost and found items and donating them to charity. Please take a moment to check lost and found for items that may belong to your child. We will bag the items on Friday, March 23 for donating.
I would like to thank all of our Watch DOGS who continue to come and be such positive role models for our students. It is a wonderful program and I have enjoyed having you here on campus. And— a big thank you to our parent volunteers who come and help prepare materials for the teachers. I love working in a district with so much parental and community support! We couldn’t do it without you!
Spring Break is coming soon and I hope you all enjoy some fun in the sun with your families. We will be out of school March 13-17 and will return Monday, March 20.

Federal Report Cards
The U.S. Department of Education requires each state to publish an annual report card with specific district- and campus-level data.
Federal Report Cards for 2015–16 are now available.
Every district that receives Title I, Part A funding is responsible for distributing the state-, district- and campus-level report cards to each of its campuses, the parents of all enrolled students, and the general public.
Prior to 2013, the NCLB Report Card was published annually from 2009–2012.
For more information about the Federal Report Card and districts' responsibilities related to it, please visit the NCLB and ESEA web page.

School Lunch
Lunch Charges
Students may charge two breakfasts and two lunches. After this time, students will be provided a substitute meal of a cheese sandwich, fruit, and one carton of milk for two additional days if the charges are not paid. After the charge limit has been reached and two days of alternative meals have been served, the child will be sent to the principal's office to call a parent to pay the balance of their account. The student will continue to be served the alternative meal until the balance is paid. After charges are paid in full, students will once again be served regular meals.
You may pay online by going to http://www.mymealtime.com and entering your child's student ID. Your student ID can be obtained through your campus front office. Once you have registered with Mealtime, you can monitor your child's account balance.
Applications for free or reduced lunch programs are available at the front offices or accessed on the Krum ISD website, http://www.krumisd.net. Under the "Parent" tab click on "Registration" and you will find the Free and Reduced Lunch application in the right column.
Thank you for taking care of your student's lunch account.

March Family Challenge
Participate in an outside activity together (Bike, Hike, Etc.)
We are asking for your participation in what we call a “Family Challenge”. Families of elementary students in Krum ISD will all have this opportunity to participate in these challenges.
See below for details on this month’s challenge. When your child brings the slip back to their teacher indicating that your family successfully completed the challenge, you are entered into a drawing to be held at the end of the school year. Have Fun and Good Luck!!
Thank you,

Mrs. Masterson's Moments in Music
This month we are working on several new songs, rhymes and games. As part of our First Steps in Music curriculum, we are learning to be 'tuneful, 'beatful,' and 'artful.' Please ask your child to teach you songs and rhymes they are learning throughout the month of March in music class! Also, please note that we will have our Kindergarten Music Program on April 18, so mark your calendars! The kids are really looking forward to showing you all the cool things we learn in music.
Here is what we are working on this month:
- "Down by the Bay"
- "Wise Old Owl"
- Fais Do Do" - this is a Cajun/French children's song
- "Here's a Nest"
- "Peanut on a Railroad Track"
Thank you for all you do to support music education at the EEC!
Regards,
Mrs. Masterson

A Note from our Nurse Mrs. Quy
Should I keep my child home?
FEVER—check your child’s temperature with a thermometer. If a
temperature of 100.0 degrees or more is present, please do not
send your child to school. It does not help your child's health to
give medication for fever and send them to school, nor does it take
care of the illness that is causing the fever. Coming to school sick
(possibly contagious) not only exposes other children to the illness,
but also delays your child’s healing time. Children must be fever-free without the assistance
of medicine before returning to school. Attendance and punctuality are so
important but, staying home to recover from illness is a greater need. Stay healthy!
Please send a change of clothes
Please place a seasonal change of clothes in your child's backpack.
