Message from Eric Wyand
Important Information:
On December 12, 2023 thru December 14, 2023, MTS will participate in a visitation from the Indian School Equalization Program (ISEP) Verification Review for the 2023-2024 School Year.
The purpose of the Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) Indian Student Equalization Program (ISEP) review for our K-12 Muckleshoot Tribal School (MTS) is to ensure we are providing quality educational programs that allow our students to excel in their academic endeavors at MTS and in their future achievement of college degrees and other technical and vocational certificates. As MTS receives funding for operations and other vital needs of the school, this allows the BIE to gain feedback and to evaluate the impact of the funding they provide.
Parents please be aware that MTS students may be asked to speak to the ISEP review team.

Message from the Director of Teaching & Learning
STEM Night was a huge success. We had nearly 100 people participate in the science and technology of catapults. Each family went home with a kit, created by our Woodshop students, to build their own catapult at home!
We invite everyone to celebrate the generosity of the Tree People at December’s Culture Night starting at 5:30 on December 14th in the MTS cafeteria.
i-Ready growth assessments are taking place from December 4th - 15th in Grades K-8. It is important that all students are present and do their best work to show how much they have learned so far this year.
This month, our teachers will be participating in ongoing learning surrounding čəbid (Doug Fir) and adaptability. They will also take part in learning how our school can become an official No Place for Hate school.
Culture Night
Elementary
The seasons are changing and the weather is getting colder. Elementary students are still spending time outdoors learning about plants, animals, changes in the seasons, and even teamwork and cooperation. Please encourage your children to bring their coats with them daily so they are prepared for the colder weather!
Secondary
As we head into the holidays we are working diligently to help students stay focused on Academics. We continue our work in the areas of attendance (being in class from bell-to-bell) and helping students access their academics through classroom lesson preparation and classroom expectations.
Teachers consistently review classroom and building expectations throughout the year in classes and we will go over them in greater detail when we get back the first week of January.
We hope your holidays are a time of peace and joy for you and your families.
Attendance Team
We continue to work on attendance as a focal point as we head into the Holidays and appreciate the increased level of communication from parents as we have worked on calls out.
We continue to work through the Truancy Board to support families in this area.

Winter sports are here and student athletes are hard at work both in the classroom and on the court and mat.
Middle School Boys Basketball - is underway and coached by Ed Hamilton and Chad MaGee, students are learning valuable lessons in work ethic and accountability.
High School Basketball - Dora Davis is in her first year as the boys coach after coaching the girls for several years. Her assistant coach is a former player and graduate Ryan Thompson Jr. They look to use their experience to guide this young team through this season.
New hire Tera Baker will take over for Dora as the head coach of the girls program. She brings her experience of coaching all levels of basketball, from youth up to college to improve on the foundation that has been laid down. Florence Starr returns to the bench as an assistant coach to help with the transition between coaches and keep continuity.
High School Wrestling
Eddie Cormier Higgins is the lone wrestler this year for MTS. He will be going for his 3 straight State Tournament appearance. He finished in 3rd place as an 8th Grader, and 4th place last year as a Freshman.
