Pease (Backyard) Library News
Memorial Day 2020
Pease Elementary 1876-2020
I want to thank the Pease community past and present for making such an impact on countless people over the years (myself included). My two years at Pease have been among the best of my life (even with the closure drama). I found my place and my people, and I am so grateful that our sweet little school brought us together. I love you all!!
Thank you Chris Barton & Friends of Pease!
And don't forget to order a signed copy of one of Chris' books here.
Before we ride off into the sunset...
“Stuart rose from the ditch, climbed into his car, and started up the road that led toward the north...As he peeked ahead into the great land that stretched before him, the way seemed long. But the sky was bright, and he somehow felt he was headed in the right direction.”
Just as the end to that story hints at many more to follow, let us continue the legacy and the story of Pease in our future endeavors. As the song says "the Pease spirit never dies"!

APL Summer Reading Program
Temple's Backyard Read-aloud on YouTube
- School's First Day of School by Adam Rex and Christian Robinson: As we near our beloved school's last day of school, I thought we should go full circle with this book. With a special dedication to our custodial staff - Derrick, Deon & Lisa!
- Shark vs. Train by Chris Barton and Tom Lichtenheld: This is one of Chris Barton's first books and it's an enduring classic. During his virtual author visit for Pease K-1, we will be taking a look at his brand new companion book to this one - Fire Truck vs. Dragon.
- Stars by Mary Lyn Ray & Marla Frazee: Another beautifully illustrated book from Marla Frazee
- All the World by Liz Garton Scanlon & Marla Frazee: This beautiful poem and the warmth of the illustrations make this book feel like home. All the world is indeed all of us!
- Naked Mole Rat Gets Dressed by Mo Willems: This was my first attempt at a video read-aloud. Talk about a humbling experience...
- Chicken Cheeks by Michael Ian Black & Kevin Hawkes - a story with a beginning, a middle, and a whole lot of ends!
A Zeal of Zebras: a special read aloud dedicated to Ms. Graham
Backyard News
- A wind storm taking down part of a tree (and a string of lights).
- Mysterious goings on with the starling family that has been nesting in a hole in the elm tree. Why all the racket on Saturday? Who were all of those bird visitors? And just what happened?
- Squirrel shenanigans!
- And of course, the usual suspects. See below.
Common Eastern Firefly (Photinus pyralis)
Red Admiral (Vanessa atalanta)
Green Anole (Anolis carolinenis)

From Earth Week to Outer Space (4/26/20)
I hope everyone had a good Earth Week and got a chance to enjoy some quality outside time. This week, in honor of the 30th anniversary of the Hubble Space Telescope, I am highlighting some space-y content.

Battle Bunny!
Way back in 2013, authors Jon Scieszka and Mac Barnett and illustrator Matthew Myers made this happen with their book Battle Bunny. Now you can put your own spin on it. Please share your version on my Flipgrid.
