From Ms. Raeker
We have some fun activities planned for this month! I will be talking to the students about personal safety and health. At the end of the month, we will celebrate Red Ribbon Week which is a nationwide drug awareness and prevention program. See the attached flyer for information on our school theme days. We will also have a visitor from the Children’s Advocacy Center to present the Kid’s Rights program which discusses child abuse. I will be sending home an opt-out letter before the program for those who do not wish for their students to attend.
Feel free to reach out by emailing sraeker@mvr3.k12.mo.us or call 636 271 1444 and ask for Ms. Raeker.
Nike Elementary Food Drive
Mark your calendars! We will be having the Nike Food Drive October 31st- November 4th!
From Nurse Jamie
Leaves are falling and so are temperatures! Please make sure your kiddos are coming to school prepared for the weather. Layers are always an excellent option! The school has only a very limited number of jackets/hoodies to loan out for use during recess.
The nurse's office is looking for some donations to help our kiddos throughout the year. If you are able to donate, items can be dropped off at the office or sent in your child's backpack in a bag labeled for the school nurse. The following items are needed:
Baby wipes
New/Unopened packages of boys & girls underwear in sizes 4/5 & 5/6
New girls basic leggings in sizes 5/6 & 7/8
Gender neutral basic T-Shirts in sizes 5/6 & 7/8
Any donations are greatly appreciated!
Thank you,
Nurse Jamie
MUSIC
First and second grades are working on a holiday revue to be performed in December. The concerts will be moving back to evening time slots. More information to follow as the date approaches. If the students would like to practice on their own the songs are posted on their Google Classroom pages. Third and fourth grade will have a concert in the spring and kindergarten will have graduation.
If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me through email at rfenelon@mvr3.k12.mo.us or through the ClassDojo Messenger.
Art
If you are able, here are some things we can always use in the art room:
Unscented baby wipes
Yarn
Buttons and Pony Beads
Empty paper towel tubes
Communication is key! I can be reached at cpatterson@mvr3.k12.mo.us or by calling the Nike office.
Artists who finish their work early are allowed to build sculptures with interlocking fish, pattern blocks, and magnet tiles.
Library
The fall book fair is coming! Book fair is always an exciting event in the library. The book fair will be open the week of October 24th - October 28th. On October 21, the "A Day '' library classes will make their wish lists as part of Missouri Day, but there will NOT be any shopping on that day. On Oct 24th, the "B day" library classes will make their wish lists AND do their shopping. There will be some limited time for "A day" to come in and shop on Oct 24th and 25th.
We will be having a Family Breakfast Event to go with the fall book fair. The breakfast will be in the gym from 8:00 am - 9:00 pm. Thursday, October 27th will be students with last names A-L. Friday, October 28th will be students with last names M-Z. Invitations for the breakfast went home in late September, so please make sure you return the RSVP so we can get a count.
Parents can also set up EWallets for their child. Parents would need to set up an account and then you can add funds to the account using a credit card. This is a "safe" way for students to shop but cash is also accepted. To get more information about the book fair, you can visit the website - www.scholastic.com/bf/nike.
PE
Your students have been working hard in PE! 4th-2nd grades just got finished with their soccer units and Pre-K-1st just finished up their throwing units. The older grades are going to be moving into their football unit, which focuses around throwing and catching skills. The youngers will be starting their kicking unit. If you could please help your child remember what days they have PE and what kind of clothes they should wear on those days it would be very helpful.
Have a great October!
3rd & 4th grade parents, your child is eligible for intramural sports. When Spring time rolls around keep a lookout for sign-up sheets.
Literacy
We practice reading skills daily focusing on the 5 components of reading. It is so important to read at home for 20 minutes a day. At the end of each month, we will have a celebration for students who receive Title 1 services and are completing their daily reading. Below you will find some statistics about why reading 20 minutes each day is SO important!
