We had a lot of fun this week celebrating Catholic Schools Week. Everything was a little different, but still enjoyable. Often during this week, but also during the school year, I receive notes of thanks and appreciation for all the SHOJ does for students and families. I share these and use them as encouragement for the staff to keep up the good work. It is my biggest prayer, that the little things that students see on a daily basis (don't get me wrong - I love a good crazy hair day) are what has the lasting effect that truly prepares minds for the future and souls for eternity!

It is our hope that we plan for a more normal year next year. The preliminary calendar has been started and you will get a draft in a couple of weeks. Just a reminder, that we have conferences on Tuesday, Feb. 16 (after President's Day). When the calendar was revised, we tried to get all our scheduled time in so that we could still finish the year before Memorial Day. Typically the teachers work a 14 hour day for conferences and then get a day off. To avoid that, we have shortened our conference hours. Please know that we love talking to parents about their kids. If you would like to meet with your child's teacher and haven't heard from them, please do not hesitate to contact them.

Finally, I know last year was a scheduled day of no school for the students after the Super Bowl (the teachers had School of Faith). This year is a scheduled day for both students and teachers on Monday! Go Chiefs.

SHOJ Covid Updates

We have had no confirmed positives among students/staff and 4 in quarantine. We continue to ask for your help with all of the safety protocols while not at school. Normally, skin suffers this time of year because due to temperatures and dry air. With additional handwashing and use of hand sanitizer, we are seeing kids with dry cracking hands. It is best to apply a moisturizing (scent free) hand cream morning and night to help these little hands heal. Please contact Nurse Mary regarding positive cases or close contacts. It is easier to determine quarantine dates and contact trace while the information is fresh. The health department has notified us that if a person loses taste and smell they are considered positive without a test. "Student Counselor"

Dear Sacred Heart families,

It’s my privilege to introduce Mrs. Megan Mixon to SHOJ as my student counselor for the rest of the school year. She is working on her final steps toward her school counseling licensure and I am thrilled for her to have chosen Sacred Heart as one of her learning platforms. Along with being a counselor in training, she is a wife and mom of children who attend the Desoto school district. I worked with Mrs. Mixon last year as her on-site supervisor and I was impressed by how natural the counseling role seemed to come for her. But I was especially struck by her sincere love and care for children. Mrs. Mixon will be working alongside me, as well as taking the lead at times in small groups, individual meetings with students, and even a classroom lesson. I will absolutely notify you to get your permission if your student is chosen to participate in her groups or individual meetings. Thank you in advance for welcoming Mrs. Mixon to our amazing school where I know she will get to learn from the very best students, staff, and families.
