Central Elementary News and Notes

Kindergarten classes celebrated Hibernation Day on February 1. They wore pajamas, made groundhogs, and read stories. At the end of the day, they tucked the groundhogs in to sleep. Since there was a snow day on Groundhog Day, students got to take their groundhogs out at home to look for shadows. Students learned about hibernation, had fun, and enjoyed the activity.

All grade levels celebrated the 100th day of school on Wednesday, February 9th, with a lot of different and fun activities. Students created things with 100 items, took pictures to make them look like they were 100 years old, challenged themselves to write their spelling words 100 times, ate special snacks, and enjoyed other fun and creative activities. Getting to the 100th day of school is always a milestone in the school year that we celebrate with our students.

We are celebrating 2/22/22 day with a dress up day:

• Dress like twins with a friend
• Wear a Tutu
• Find a friend and dress like a famous duo (examples: Batman/Robin and Anna/Elsa)

To build enthusiasm and excitement around reading during the Valentine's holiday, the library has wrapped up quality books that don't typically get checked out. On the wrapping paper, captions are written to gain the attention of students. Students then checkout the books based on the caption and get to unwrap the mystery book to read the book. This was a fun way for students to checkout books they typically wouldn't checkout and build their love for reading.

Our Sweetheart Dances were fun for our students last Friday. Students and parents were able to dance in the gym, purchase candygrams, and get pictures taken by a photographer. These events are always fun for our students because they get to dress up, brings parents, and hang out with friends.

The pictures that were taken by the photographer will be developed and sent home with students when we get them back from the photographer.
