This week we are highlighting Mrs. Young! Mrs. Young is our Resource co-teacher! Not only does she pull small groups of students into her office for more individualized instruction, she also pushes into classrooms to co-teach. You will never find Mrs. Young sitting still. She is always working with students or helping out a fellow staff member. She is constantly going above and beyond for any student or staff member who needs her! Thank you for everything you do Mrs. Young!

"I love using different strategies."- Jack B. in 2nd grade can't get enough of the double digit math work his class has been up to!

Our second grade classrooms have been focusing on different math strategies such as the jump strategy, split strategy, and tens and ones. In literacy they have been reviewing non-fiction text features and continue to practice retelling stories! In Science they are working hard to figure out why certain trees haven't been growing in a Bengal Tiger Reserve and learning about what seeds need in order to grow! Keep up the awesome work 2nd grade!!

Halloween is just around the corner. As a reminder, children should not bring edible treats with them to distribute to their friends and classmates. Additionally, students should not bring any look alike or toy weapons as costume props. Please remember that children will be dismissed at 11:30 a.m. on 10/29. There will be no EC/BEL classes in session on 10/29.

Our students will have a chance to show off their costumes during the Halloween Parade. The parade will start at 9:30 a.m. Parents are welcome to view the parade as we move around the outside of the campus. Please be aware that the parade will be cancelled if it rains or if it is too cold outside. (The ten day forecast shows sunny and warm on the 28th!)

Please remember to send children to school with their water bottles. Our water fountains have bottle fillers, but the drinking spouts have been temporarily disabled to reduce the risk of spreading COVID.

Veterans Day is November 11th. We invite you to share a copy of a picture of a veteran in your family to celebrate the day. Please do not send original photos, as the pictures will not be returned. Fill out the form and return it to school by November 5th with the photo you would like to share. The photos will be placed on display near the main entrance.

Affy Tapple orders will be distributed Thursday, October 28th from 3:20 - 4:30 in the gym. All orders will need to be picked up by an adult, no orders will be sent home with students. The PTA found out today from the Affy Tapple vendor that due to a shortage in chocolate the pretzel rod orders will be delayed. Affy Tapple will be contacting us when they are ready to be delivered, at which time we will let parents know. We apologize for this inconvenience.

Taffy apples will be delivered on time and can be picked up on the regular scheduled date of Thursday, October 28 between 3:30-4:30.

The Oak Lawn-Hometown D123 Education Foundation will once again be hosting Tacos and Trivia! The event is scheduled for November 12!
