Joyfully Embracing Our Mission
We, the St. Clare School Community, joyfully embrace the Gospel mission entrusted by Christ to His Church.
Believing that everyone is made in the image and likeness of God, we cherish and celebrate our diverse backgrounds and cultures.
Dear St. Clare School Families,
Next Week is Catholic Schools Week | January 27 - February 1 | Help us celebrate!
What we have at St. Clare School is indeed very special. It seems fitting that at about halfway through our school year, we would dedicate one week to recognizing the many groups who make our school what it is! We know that our success does not hinge on the building or the institution: our success is due to the commitment made by the students, families, educators, administrators, community partners, parish supporters, alumni, benefactors and friends. We are grateful!

HAVE YOU NOTICED OUR FACE-LIFT?
Matt Dutra and his hard working crew (Larry, Kevin, et al) spent the past long weekend installing LED lighting throughout the exterior perimeter of the school and replacing the lamps lighting the wood signage and display case at the front entrance. Our school façade got a much needed sign that is visible from across the street. Mr. Sandoval and family touched up interior paint. Mr. Vasquez fixed doors that had expanded and were not opening efficiently. Mr. DelGrosso replaced an aging vanity in the teachers' washroom with a modern fixture. Our space, although 100 years old, is looking refreshed and renewed. Thanks to them and to you for your generous support of our fundraising programs. We are continuing to enjoy our new phones and paging/public address system.
PARENTS AS PARTNERS: WE SEE YOU AND WE APPRECIATE YOU!
Thank you to our parents, grandparents and family members who answer the request to fix this or that, volunteer for lunch duty supervision, help during art class, chaperone a field trip or library time, help during photo days, help during lunch, promote the school on social media, create collateral material for school marketing (especially Mr. and Mrs. Chee), and to our SAC, PTG officers and members and our dedicated group of Room Reps who keep the communication flowing and everything else in between. You are a tremendous resource for us. Without you, our school will not be the amazing community that it is! We are humbled by your generous spirit!
OPEN HOUSE THIS SUNDAY
Bring your family, friends and neighbors and join us this Sunday to kick of Catholic Schools Week. We will begin the day by celebrating Family Mass at 9:00, followed by our open house at 9:30.
Think you will be hungry???? Stop by the hall and enjoy a delicious breakfast of pancakes, sausage and juice. The pancake breakfast opens immediately following the first morning Mass at 7:45.
We have provided the Open House Flyer for you to download. Please share it with anyone you know who might be looking to find a school for their child(ren). You are the PR for St. Clare School and we appreciate that you made the choice to send your children here.
YARD DUTY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!!!
Dear Community,
We are sending out this extremely important appeal to you as we have seen a dramatic decline in volunteers for yard duty. Although this is a high service hour opportunity, it is also a position that requires a full year commitment. Your participation in keeping our students safe and secure during the lunch hour is extremely important! Without your service we will be forced to look to hire from the outside.
Please consider volunteering for yard duty and committing to one hour per week for the remainder of the school year. Volunteering your time keeps tuition down as an alternative to paid supervision.
Thank you! The St. Clare School Faculty and Staff appreciate your continued support and commitment.

Gospel for Sunday, January 27th from Luke 1: 1-4, 4: 14-21
“The spirit of the Lord is on me, for he has anointed me to bring the good news to the afflicted. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives, sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, to proclaim a year of favour from the Lord.”
The context of this quote from the Gospel is Jesus is at his hometown, Nazara, attending Synagogue and is asked to proclaim the word of Isaiah. Jesus is announcing his ministry. I was recently reflecting on my role at my parish, St. Thomas of Canterbury, as a minister of the Word. I remember how terrified I was for the first few times I read the Word at my church among people I have worshipped with for years. I was specifically asked by my previous pastor to take on this role, not because I am a teacher but because our parish was shorthanded. I wonder if Jesus was as terrified as I was at the start of his ministry. I was certainly called to this ministry and I treat it with the utmost sacredness. I practice the assigned readings aloud several times to the utter confusion of the dog paying particular attention to the pronunciation of unknown words and names. Now, I am nearly never nervous and love it when I am scheduled to read but I know I never would have accepted this role had my pastor not acted upon the prompting of the Holy Spirit. ~ Mrs. Procaccio
