February/March Makerspace Activities
Shrinky Dink Valentine's Day Lunchtime Maker Challenge
About 25 students and teachers
visited the library to create Shrinky Dink pins.
Students added their designs with permanent markers
After their designs were baked in the oven...
students added a backing and a pin to complete the project.
March Maker Challenge: Jewelry Making
On March 30,
more than 35 students and teachers gathered to make jewelry.
There was a variety of
beads, string and other materials on hand for the event.
Students and teachers showcased their creativity by
building necklaces, earrings, and bracelets. Students continued to work on their projects before school and at lunch for the next week of school.

Creating Stop Motion Cooking Videos with Ms. Coston's FACS Classses
Ms. Coston's Classes
created stop motion videos of recipes.
Her classes learned how to create video
using iMovie.
Students worked in pairs to perfect their videos
before they were posted to YouTube and voted on by the Lakeside community.
Ms, Waldrip's Finch Robot Coding Projects
Ms. Waldrip's Pre AP Science classes
programmed Finch Robots.
Students wrote programs for the Finches
to demonstrate their knowledge of acceleration and speed.
They programmed the Finches
in Snap Language to move through the mazes they designed.
Ms. Samara's Class Immigration Role Play
Ms. Samara's Class
built passports and simulated what it was like for immigrants to arrive at Ellis Island 100 years ago.
Students
had to pack a bag with a few belongings to take on their journey.
Students also
wrote reflections about photos of immigrants to describe what they were feeling and thinking as they arrived in America.
