DISTRICT CHAMPIONS!!!
For the first time in a long time, L.H. Rather won the UIL Academic District Championship. Six students won individual district championships, and seven teams won team event championships en route to the overall district win. I am so proud of all our competitors and coaches, as this truly was a school wide victory. Over sixty students participated in the contest at Austin College and in addition to our victory, I was equally proud that many coaches from other schools commented on how well our students represented Bonham with their behavior and class. It's truly a great time to be an L.H. Rather Indian!!
BASKETBALL SUCCESS
Our boys and girls basketball teams wrapped up the season in style earlier this month at their respective district championship tournaments. Both girls teams advanced to the third place games but fell a little short. Our 7th grade boys team made it to the championship game, but after a great first half they couldn't keep pace with Gunter. As you can see below, they were pretty fired up about winning the runner up trophy.
LUNCH IS SERVED!
We will be trying something new next month. After listening to some student ideas about the cafeteria food, I worked with Mrs. Kinnard to create a survey that would give every student the chance to have a say in our March cafeteria menu. While this might not seem like a huge deal, if we want kids to love school they have to know that their voices are heard and that they have some say in way their school runs. Based on their survey results they want less pizza and more chicken wings, tacos, salads, baked potatoes, enchiladas, and fresh fruit.
FEBRUARY STUDENT OF THE MONTH: TYLER WHITMAN
VALENTINE'S DANCE
Our students had a great time at the Valentine's Dance hosted by the student council. Dances are a lot different that when we went to school, but they sure seemed to have fun. It is always great to see kiddos smiling and happy!
COUNSELOR APPRECIATION
We got to celebrate Counselor Appreciation Day this month at LHR. There is no doubt our staff and students are blessed to have Mrs. Loftice and Mrs. Whitlock serving as our counselors. They are two of the best I have ever worked with!
