Filing Dates for the Hannibal Board of Education
The Hannibal School District will accept declarations of candidacy from any person interested in running for a position on the School Board in the April 2, 2024 election. Persons interested can file at the district office at 4650 McMasters Avenue Hannibal, MO. Read more about the requirements and filing information here.
Superintendent Search: Survey Report
The Missouri School Boards’ Association recently conducted a stakeholder survey from October
16-26, 2023. The attached report is intended to inform the Hannibal School District #60 School District Board of Education about the desired qualifications stakeholders hope to have in the next superintendent.
The survey resulted in 368 total responses from parents/guardians, teachers,
community members, support staff, students, and others. The feedback from the survey report will
be used to guide the hiring process to ensure the next superintendent is a good fit for the district
and community.
Reminder of the Search Timeline:
- October 16-26 Stakeholder survey
- Nov. 1 - Dec. 31 Application period
- January 9 Board reviews candidates
- January 18 Board screens candidates
- January 26 Formal interviews

Back by popular request, we're adding some extra cheer and spirit to our countdown to Christmas Break starting on December 1st!
This year, HMS helped pick the theme: Merry Swiftmas / Holiday Era's Tour!! Each day has a unique theme, offering a fun way to celebrate the season. Whether it's showcasing your best Grinch impression or cozying up in your favorite flannel, there's something for everyone!
Dress up days are the same District Wide" Pre-K- 12th Grade!! Encouraged, but not required, it is just a fun way to countdown to Winter Recess! Looking forward to seeing your festive styles!
November Board of Education Meeting Highlights
The Hannibal School District Board of Education held a meeting on Wednesday, November 15th, that was recorded and can be viewed on the Hannibal60 YouTube channel. The agenda can be viewed online under Board Meeting Notices. Below are some highlights.
The meeting began with Robert Craig, retired staff member leading the Pledge of Allegiance. Mr. Craig was a bus driver for the School District, for 8 years before retiring last year. He currently is a substitute bus driver. He served in the United States Marine Corp, as an E5 Sergeant for two years 1968-1970 during the Vietnam War.
Program Evaluations: Gifted Education was the program evaluation for November. Shawn Brown, assistant superintendent; Tracy Murphy, elementary LEAP teacher; and Kailea Drennan, middle school LEAP teacher provided a synopsis of the Gifted Program.
Attendance Letters: Meghan Karr, assistant superintendent, provided the three step attendance letters that are sent to parents, along with the letter that is sent inviting parents to a meeting at the Prosecuting Attorney’s conference room. These letters only go out after multiple interventions have previously been employed.
RFQ: It is recommended by Lee and seconded by Graves to utilize Klingner & Associates for the Request for Qualification for Architectural and Professional Engineering Services (RFQ). Motion carried 7-0.
Standards Based Grading: The board agreed to hold a special board meeting to build a survey to send out to the community regarding Standards Based Grading. The meeting will take place on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. at the Administrative Offices.
RFP: It was moved by Lee and seconded by Parker to accept the proposal submitted by Performance Services, Inc. for the Energy Performance Contract Project that will plan, develop, design, and implement innovative solutions for a variety of District capital projects, general obligation bond funded projects, and ESSER funded projects. Motion carried 7-0.
ACT Proposal: Shawn Brown, assistant superintendent, shared a proposal that Jason Noland, principal at Hannibal High School, and his staff members have developed for students who may want to take the ACT exam but struggle to have the money needed to register. Jason Noland, principal, and Lacy Bennett, A+ Coordinator, discussed and answered questions regarding the proposal. Motion moved by Lee and seconded by Graves to approve the ACT proposal as presented. Motion carried 6-1 with the following roll call vote: Graves - aye; Evans - aye; Hawes - nay; Coleman - aye; Parker - aye; Lee - aye; and Mundle - aye.
Climate and Culture Surveys: It was moved by Evans and seconded by Parker to allow Shawn Brown, assistant superintendent, to send out the Climate and Culture Surveys to students, parents, and staff as presented. Motion carried 7-0.

- Capital Projects Work Session Thursday December 7th, 2023 at 5:30pm at the Administrative Offices.
- Board of Education Meeting - Wednesday, December 13, 2023 - 6:00 p.m. - Early Childhood Center
- Midterm Graduation - Thursday, January 11, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. at Korf Gymnasium
