A Message to Families on the Trial for the Murder of Aidan Ellison
Dear Ashland School District Community,
We still feel the loss of former AHS student Aidan Ellison who was shot and killed on November 23, 2020. This Monday, two and half years later, the trial of Robert Paul Keegan will begin. A former ASD parent, Keegan is facing four charges, including second-degree murder, which carries a maximum penalty of life in prison for an incomprehensible act.
It is likely that many emotions will come to the surface during the trial for our students, staff, and broader community impacted by the incident. For our students, sites will offer support in the form of school counseling and a place for our students to process feelings and connect as needed.
Aidan's life and senseless death affected us all in so many ways. We need only to look at the mural at AHS to be reminded that we lost a young, Black teen and former student - a light that was taken far too soon and whose death still leaves an empty space in our hearts. Again, please support your students and one another as the legal process unfolds and hopefully helps bring justice to Aidan's family.
If your student would like to speak with someone, please reach out to your school principal, counselor, CDS, or BHS. Contact information is listed below. Thank you to our school counselors, CDSs, and BHSs who are on site to support students.
Sincerely,
Andrea Townsend
