5 Stars for KECC!
Step Up To Quality (SUTQ) is a five-star quality rating and improvement system in the state of Ohio. It is administered by the Ohio Department of Education and the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. The system recognizes and promotes early care and education programs that meet quality program standards that exceed licensing health and safety regulations. The program standards are based on national research identifying standards that lead to improved outcomes for children.
We had our state audit last week, and we earned a 5 star rating for the second time! I'm so proud of the work that our staff does to make this the best early childhood education setting for children.
Teacher Appreciation Week is Monday, May 8th, through Friday, May 12th!

Notes from Nurse David
10 summer safety tips for kids:
Make summer smart with these tips to keep children healthy and happy all summer long.
1. Keep watch to prevent drowning: Actively supervise children at all times
when in or around water.
2. Look for signs of heat exhaustion: Make sure children take frequent water
breaks and wear light clothing when outside.
3. Check for car safety: Be sure child seat is properly fitted. Never leave a
child unattended in a parked car.
4. Protect skin from the sun: Apply sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher and reapply
at least every 3 hours.
5. Avoid bug bites: Use insect repellant and avoid using scented soaps or
lotions that attract bugs.
6. Enjoy fireworks safely: Always read firework instructions and never let
young children touch or light fireworks.
7. Drink enough water: Keep children hydrated especially when playing
outside. Offer them water breaks even if they are “not thirsty”.
8. Maintain safe playground practice: Always supervise children and be sure
they are playing on age appropriate equipment.
9. Wear life jacket on boats: Always have children wear properly fitted life
jackets at all times when on a boat.
10. Ride bikes the smart way: Always have children wear a properly fitted
helmet and teach them to watch for cars and other bike riders.
Have a fun and safe summer and see you next year!!
