Thoughts from Dr. Pacatte
Mrs. Tami Kroc, Director of Pupil Services
The close of the 2023 school year brings many changes to the Gurnee District 56 family, and one of the biggest is the retirement of Tami Kroc, Director of Pupil Services. Tami has been a long-term employee of our district joining our district as a Special Education teacher in 1998. After 10 years in that role, she was then tapped to become the Assistant Principal at Viking School, where she worked closely with students and the special education program, as well. Her final step was in the 2007-08 school year when she was promoted to Director of Pupil Services.
In her current position, Tami works with families, students, and staff from all over the district. She oversees not only special education but related services such as nursing, social work, psychology and any outside services and placements being provided to our students. She is authentically invested in our families, staff, and students and does whatever she can to help people work their way through the legalities paperwork and associated challenges. During the pandemic, Tami coordinated all of our responses to COVID; ordering supplies, monitoring the status of each individual's timeline, from testing positive to returning to school, and reporting to the Lake County Health Department. This was on top of everything that was already required by her existing position.
She is a vital member of our team, and her presence will be missed as she will be taking not only her historical knowledge of our district, a comprehensive understanding of special needs students and special education law, but her ability to be there for everyone with a listening ear, empathy, and solutions. She is a friend to everyone.
On behalf of our staff and families, congratulations, and thank you for spending your career in District 56, Tami Kroc. The lives you have touched are too many to count, and I count myself amongst the lucky.
