October News

Welcome to the family newsletter for October. We have had lots of fun and exciting events happen so far this month. We want to highlight some important information and let you know what's been going on at SKJH!

Cross Country Running

Our Cross Country Runners took part in the School Sport Cross Country Running Qualifier for Provincials at Bowring Park. These students worked extra hard and we are so proud of them! Our team consisted of grade 6 students who competed against students in grade 7, 8 and 9! Way to go!!

School Council

We are happy to announce that Jaime LeDrew and Pam Starkes have volunteered to be co-chairs of the School Council this year. We would also like to welcome Jeff McGrath, Lindsay Warren, Leah Richards, Joe Philpott, Janet Critch, Deanna Miles and Cheryl Coates to our School Council.

Fill the Tractor

Students and families of SKJH worked really hard to donate items to the local food bank! We collected 1817 food items! These contributions will be meals for many families living within our community! We couldn't be more proud to be part of such a wonderful initiative.

Smoothie Day

This month we participated in the KES Province Wide Smoothie Day for our students! Huge shout out to our wonderful volunteers. The students really enjoyed this little treat!

Janeway Jamarama

We are, once again, happy to be a part of Janeway Jamarama! Everyone is asked to wear their PJ’s on Friday, October 21st. Information on how you can donate to the Janeway will be sent prior to Jamarama Day!

Walk for Breakfast

On Wednesday morning, Oct. 5, 2022 our school took part in our annual Walk for Breakfast. Overall, it was a huge success. We wanted to thank our SKJH families for donating this year! We collected a total of $222.70. One group of students decided to donate the money they collected at their Lemonade stand to go towards the Breakfast club! Thank you all for your continued support.

Lunch Time Reminders

We want to remind our students to come dressed for all weather conditions. Our students will be availing of outside play as much as possible. Weather pending, all grade 6, 7, and 8 students will be outside the second half of lunch. Furthermore, our Grade 7 & 8 students, who choose to go out for lunch will not be permitted back inside until approximately 12:10.


Lastly, if you are picking up your child for lunch, we kindly remind you of these same procedures. Please do not drop your child back to school throughout the middle of lunch. He/She/They will only be permitted back inside at 12:10. We thank you in advance for your cooperation and support.


Homework Haven

Homework Haven is an excellent resource for students to use to get extra help in a subject, work on partner projects, finish up late assignments, or simply get clarification on a topic. A Homework Haven/Aide aux Devoirs began on Tuesday, October 11, 2022. We want to encourage the use of this excellent program! Teachers are available and willing to help!

Recycling

We are recycling beverage containers at the school this year. If families want to donate they have the option of dropping off their items at any Recycling Depot and requesting that they be donated to SKJH. Simply provide the school’s phone number (our account number). You can also bring your recycling here to the school as well!

Halloween

On Monday, October 31st students may wear their Halloween costumes to school (no weapons or masks allowed). We are asking that your child come to school in the morning wearing his/her/their costume. This will alleviate overcrowding in our washrooms of students trying to get ready. Please consider the fact that your child will be wearing his/her/their costume all day. We encourage students to be mindful of this in their decision making on the type of costume they choose to wear.


We will be participating in some Spooktacular activities next week!

Tuesday Oct, 25th -Fall bake sale. (Everything will be $3 or less)


Wednesday Oct, 26th - Spider Hunt


Thursday Oct, 27th -Accessory day (ie: pumpkin hat, witch hat, etc. ) and Halloween Movie (after school)


Friday October, 28th - Wear Halloween colors/design.


Monday October 31st -Halloween Costumes ( no weapons or masks)
