7th Hour Credit Recovery
For students who are behind in credits we offer a 7th hour class for students to recover those credits. Students must be passing all of their current classes in order to be eligible to participate in 7th hour. There is open enrollment for 7th hour, meaning as soon as students are passing all of their classes, they can start 7th hour. There is no deadline to get started. Applications for are available in the Counseling Office. See your counselor with any questions.
Senior Meetings
The counselors have started meeting with seniors to talk to them about their post-graduation plans. Our goal is to make sure each student knows how to achieve those plans regardless of what they might be. If your student hasn't met with their counselor yet, have them reach out to create an appointment.

Traver Talk
As we enter the second marking period we are now 25% of the way through the school year already! November and December and busy months and with that I know the rest of the year will seemingly fly by! With that colder weather brings more illness that circulates around and more attendance inconsistencies from all students. As a reminder, if your student is going to be out sick, please call our attendance line to excuse your student. That number is 810-591-1375. If you take your student in to the doctor (or if they have a regularly scheduled appointment) please provide us with a doctor’s note and those absences will not count for students come exam time.
As a reminder, the following types of absences count toward a student's absence totals for exams: UX (unexcused), EX (excused), RE (released early), and LT (late tardy). However, there are absences that do not count toward absence totals: FT (field trip), M (medical - requires a doctor’s note), and B (bereavement - requires documentation).
It's important for all parents and students to understand that student absence totals per class will determine our exam policy come January when students complete their Semester 1 Exams. Our policy stipulates that students who have 10 or more absences in any given hour must earn a score of 78% or higher on the final exam in order to pass the course.
The biggest opportunity for improvement is with our student’s tardiness. Click the chart to the right that outlines tardies from just the last two weeks of school. As you can see in 1st hour alone 682 students were marked tardy in 10 school days for an average of 68.2 students per day. As a reminder, bussing is available to students who live in district. First hour starts promptly at 7:35 and students may be dropped off as early as 7:15.
We believe in the importance of regular attendance as it directly impacts a student's ability to succeed academically. Click the chart to the left to see where student grades are as of 11/10/23. If your student needs additional support please consider having your student stay for after school tutoring Monday-Thursday from 2:30-4:30 to get back on track. Thank you for your continued support in ensuring the success of our students. Together, we can help them achieve their academic goals!
Principal's Points
As we head into the Holiday Season, please note the following activities and reminders. Time always seems to fly by during this stretch of the 1st Semester and I hope this checklist helps you with your planning efforts.
November
1. College Application Deadlines: If your student is a senior, ensure that all college application
materials are submitted by the respective deadlines. Check with the school's college counseling office for support.
2. Parent/Student Vue: Review your student's midterm progress in their classes and discuss them
with your student. Identify areas of improvement or concerns. I encourage you to email or call any
staff member if you need more feedback.
3. Extracurricular Activities: Encourage your student to actively participate in extracurricular
activities, clubs, or sports. These activities can enhance their college applications and provide
valuable experiences. Please see the various after-school clubs that you might be interested in.
Winter sports practices are beginning and there is still time to join.
4. Volunteer Hours: Seniors, please explore volunteer opportunities for you within the community
or school. Please see Mrs. Collar in the Guidance Office to discuss possible opportunities. Many
colleges and scholarship programs value community service.
December
1. Final Exam Preparation: Support your student in preparing for final exams. Encourage your
student to actively participate in all exam preparation activities in their classes. It’s always good
practice to create a study schedule, well in advance, of the scheduled exams.
2. Holiday Break Plans: Discuss holiday break plans with your student. If they need to catch up on
coursework or prepare for exams, plan accordingly. ParentVue can assist you in identifying
missing assignments for your student to complete. Contact teachers to get any clarification that
you may need.
3. School Events: During this period, the building will be hosting a number of school events,
performances, or holiday concerts. Please check our school website for dates and times for all
activities.
4. Communication with Teachers: Stay in regular communication with your student's teachers. If
there are concerns or questions, reach out to them before the holiday break.
5. Review Graduation Requirements: If your student is a senior, review graduation requirements
and ensure that they are on track to meet them. Double-check any outstanding credits or
requirements. Please contact our Counseling Office to inquire about your student’s academic
standing, and discuss options to address any concerns.
6. Discuss Future Plans: Have conversations with your student about their future plans, whether it's college, vocational training, or entering the workforce. Having regular discussions about the
future allows students time to plan and can also alleviate anxiety.
This checklist is a resource for you to stay ahead of deadlines and avoid any “surprises”..
Regular communication with teachers, counselors, and your student is key to a successful high
school experience. Please contact me if you have questions or concerns. Together, we can
smooth the path to success for your student. Join the Mustang Charge! Go Clio! #theplacetobe.
