In This Edition of the SPS Weekly Newsletter...
We are excited to share the latest edition of the SPS Weekly Newsletter with our families, students, staff, and community members! A new edition will be sent each Friday when school is in session, sharing updates, previewing upcoming events, and showcasing the amazing work being done in our schools. This week we feature Dr. Baeta's weekly message, Unified Basketball coming to SHS, the new soccer teams at OMS, and more!
From the Desk of the Superintendent
At the 9/26/23 School Committee meeting I presented my Transitional Entry Plan for SPS. An entry plan is an opportunity for me to meet with all stakeholders in order to collect information, plan, and make thoughtful recommendations. I will be meeting with faculty and staff per a schedule of dates and times forwarded earlier this week.
For families I will be providing the following Office Hours at the Superintendent’s Office located at 31 Pierce Street in Stoughton:
Wednesday, October 25th from 6:00-7:00pm
Thursday, November 2nd from 9:00-10:00am
Tuesday, November 14th from 8:30-9:30am
Thursday, November 16th from 5:00-6:00pm
I look forward to listening and learning from you.

Unified Basketball Program at SHS
We are excited to be offering Unified Basketball at Stoughton High this fall! Unified sports give students of all abilities the chance to take part in the high school athletics experience.
The SHS Unified Basketball team has six games scheduled in October against fellow Hockomock League schools. The first Unified Basketball game of the season will be taking place Monday, October 2, 2023 at 3:45pm against Canton High at the Stoughton High gymnasium. Come out and support our students take on the Bulldogs!
Registration is still open for this season. Students in the Therapeutic Learning Center (TLC), Learning Center (LC), and Transition Program at SHS are eligible to register. Click here to register.

Middle School Sports
The O'Donnell Middle School now has an athletics program, with a boys soccer team, girls soccer team, and cross country team competing this fall season.
The OMS boys and girls soccer teams traveled to Randolph earlier this week to start their respective seasons and both OMS teams came away with wins! Click on the team pictures below to view photo galleries from both games.
The OMS cross country team also started this week and we look forward to featuring photos from a cross country meet in an upcoming newsletter!
Bilingual Parent Night
We had a great turnout Thursday night at the SPS Bilingual Parent Night! This event, held at SHS, gave parents/guardians and families of our multilingual learners the opportunity to meet their child's ESL teacher and hear more about school expectations, school communication, the parent portal, and many other useful topics. Thanks to our ELE team for putting together a successful night!
Around the District
The Dawe School focuses on different positive character traits each month and honors students for displaying those character traits at a "Character Counts" assembly. Compassion - caring for others with kindness - was the character trait for September. Click here to see more photos!
The Gibbons School had a Walk to School event Friday morning! There was a great turnout and Gibbons students, families, and staff were able to get a nice walk in before the rain arrived. Take a look at more pictures here.
Second grade students at the Hansen School are seen here having a blast working on Math Centers!
Second graders at the South School are pictured here having some fun with subtraction. The students used themselves as placeholders to solve problems on a number line.
Third graders at the Wilkins School observed a tornado in a bottle as part of their extreme weather unit!
Here is a look at students in the Stoughton High School Theatre program getting ready for their production of Into the Woods! Check out the Stoughton High School Theatre Facebook page for more photos! And, stay tuned for more details as we get closer to this performance in November!
