Did You Know
In 1959, there were 16 country schools in Washington County that were combined to form the Akron School District R-1. The names and student count of these country schools include:
Akron (664), Highland (4), Rago (6), Prairie View (23),
Hillside (10), Pleasant Valley (17), Butte (7), Liberty (14),Sunshine (14), Curtis (12), Star (9), Ashland (10),
Platner, Sunny Slope (15), High Prairie (7) , and Washington County High School.
The census at that time reported 812 students eligible to attend school; however, the total enrollment of the new Akron School District R-1 was 715 students with 510 in the elementary and 205 in the high school. The Akron School District also covers 664 square miles.

Safety Day
This week our elementary students had the privilege of learning about our emergency personnel, and how to stay safe in our community. The Washington County Sheriff’s Department came and showed students how to safely cross the streets and navigating a parking lot safely. Then the Washington County EMS showed our students their ambulances and talked about when we need to call 911. The Akron Volunteer Fire Department showed our students how to use a fire extinguisher, and talked about the importance of a safety plan at home, in case of a fire. Then our students watched the MedEvac helicopter land on our football field! Students were able to look inside and ask questions of the pilot and flight nurses.
We are SO thankful for these agencies taking time out of their busy schedules!!
Thank you Med Evac, Akron Volunteer Fire Department, Washington County Ambulance, and Sheriff's Department for helping with our safety day!
Pink Out a Huge Success
Pink Out was held on Friday, October 27th. The Akron High School volleyball team would like to thank all the volleyball and football parents who donated their time either making a basket or putting together an item to raffle. They would also like to thank all of those who donated money to support the cause. A BIG thank you to Kilee Randel for heading up this event. Shirts are still available, if you are interested in purchasing one, please get a hold of Kilee Randel. We look forward to hosting this event again next year.

Our Rams played hard and gained some valuable experience from the good competition. The Rams will be in action again on Thursday at Haxtun.
