Dear Central Families:

Things at Central are quickly falling into a smooth routine. We can not thank you enough for all your patience with drop off and pick up. Yesterday we had our best time and everyone was dropped off in ten minutes and everyone picked up in 15 minutes. That is a huge accomplishment since we have about 225 kids that come to school via car daily.

The first few weeks of school are busy as teachers work hard to create a family-like atmosphere in their classrooms, teach routines and procedures, and learn everything they can about their students. Our support staff has been busy assessing our kids so that we have a better understanding of how they are doing in reading and math so that we are able to plan accordingly for their success.

This year we are also happy to announce that we have 2 new partnerships, one with Aesthetic Education through KRESA and the other through Playworks. We have had Aesthetic Education in our building for several years, however this year we have ALL of our teachers trained. This is an amazing program where we work directly with teaching artists and then our students are able to experience various forms of art throughout the community. We are also working with Playworks. This organization focuses on making recess fun and inclusive for everyone. We are excited to learn everything we can from this group. If there is a last minute change in how your child is getting home that day, please call the office and let us know. We will pass that information onto the teacher and student.

If you are picking a student up early, please call the office when you are on your way and we will have them ready for you when you get here.

We will have popcorn available every Friday starting September 17th, woo hoo!!!

The cost is $.25 per bag.

The students can bring their quarters into their teachers to place their popcorn order. Thank you to the parent volunteers who are helping pop the popcorn this year!

An update from the flier that was sent home....

We are limiting the kids to 2 bags of popcorn. We are glad kids were excited for this special treat, but we need to be respectful of our volunteers' time.

Should my child stay home from school? Use this health screening tool to help you answer that question.

If your child is sick, you need call the office at 266-488-1000 or email lnieboer@parchmentschools.org in order for the absence to be excused.

Please send extra masks in your child's backpack. Kids lose them, chew on them, break them, throw them away with their lunch, etc.... and we are going through masks like crazy. So if you could put extra masks in your child's backpack for them to use in case they need it, that would be great. Thank you!

• Water bottle - Please send a water bottle every day with your student, as we have no drinking fountains but we do have bottle fillers so the students can stay hydrated during the school day.
• Headphones - Each child has their own chrome book and they need their own headphones to use with it, so please send a pair in with your student.

Bring your beautiful smiles with you on Thursday, September 23rd for Picture Day. Also, don't forget to send in your picture order form with your student that day.

Every month, a student will be chosen from each classroom to be Student Of The Month. These students will get their picture hung on the wall, will be announced in our newsletter and morning announcements, will receive a certificate and will get to have lunch with the other students of the month and staff.

How do you become Student Of The Month?

• being a good example for your classmates
• working extra hard in class
• following directions
• being a good friend
• being respectful
• being a good listener

We have a book vending machine and some students have already earned a golden coin. This coin gives them the ability to pick any book they want from the vending machine. Earning a golden coin is a spontaneous thing when a student is going above and beyond what is expected or typical for that student. We also created this cozy reading corner that students can use.

We will be donating the lost and found every Friday so that we don't get an accumulation of things. We will have the kids walk past it and take things they recognize before we do that. We are hopeful that if we do this regularly they will remember losing it and claim their belongings. If your student is missing something please contact the teacher or call the office so we can help.

Kids often have accidents, find a mud puddle or spill milk on themselves and need a change of clothes. If you have any elastic waisted shorts or pants that you are willing to donate for us to use, we would appreciate it.
