Principal Simpson's Message
Greetings PRM Families,
The 2022-23 school year is off and running! Our staff has been hard at work building relationships, teaching expectations and procedures, and providing access to high-quality, on-grade-level Montessori instruction. We are collecting baseline data to be able to tailor instruction to meet the unique needs of each student. Thank you for being awesome partners as we pursue outstanding student outcomes with our learners.
Our arrival and dismissal have improved tremendously since the start of school. Thank you for adhering to our guidelines and procedures so that we can get students into the building as quickly as possible each morning. Be sure to secure a daily dismissal plan with your child's teacher and stick to it. Dismissal changes due to appointments must be communicated in writing to the teacher by no later than the morning of the day the change is needed. Please do not call our office during dismissal to have your child's dismissal adjusted. There is no early dismissal after 1:30pm.
Remember, we are all in this together. Don't hesitate to contact us with your questions or concerns. Please check prmrocks.org for announcements regarding school/community events. We value your partnership and are honored to work with you!
Love,
Principal Simpson

2022-23 Arrival and Dismissal Procedures
Please help us by following these procedures:
- Arrival begins at 7:35am. Please do not arrive before 7:30am so that our staff can park and get in place.
- The park and walk option is available at the Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian Church. You may park your car and escort your student to the proper arrival entrance. Students may not walk to or from the church parking lot without a parent. Keep the positive energy flowing. We are in this together!
- Please be mindful of your speed. The School Zone speed limit is 20mph. Please keep your speed to 15mph when driving on campus. Citations will be given for violations.
- There is no drop-off on Montgomery Rd. This is not safe. The police officer on duty will be giving citations if this happens.
- When dropping off students in the car line, please ensure they are ready to exit the car from the passenger side with all their belongings. We want to keep things moving as efficiently as possible.
- Families dropping off a PreK student must merge to the right side of the carline for morning dropoff. The staff will complete the safety check and escort the student and any siblings to the PreK entrance.
- Dismissal is from 2:05-2:15pm. Please do not arrive for the carline before 1:50pm. The gate will not open until 1:50pm. You can minimize frustration by not arriving too early.
- Be sure to select a daily dismissal method for your child and stick to it. Dismissal changes must be communicated to the teacher in writing 24 hours in advance or the morning of the change. Students will be sent home the normal way if this communication is not received. There is no early dismissal after 1:30pm.
- Please watch out for our staff as they support traffic flow on Montgomery Rd.
- Be prepared for your child(ren) to be loaded into your car on the passenger side only.
- Please pull forward once your child(ren) loads the car. You may buckle them in further up the driveway.
- You may park at the Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian Church to walk over to pick up your child in the front.

You have the right to know about the teaching qualifications of your child’s classroom teacher in a school receiving Title I funds. The federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requires that any school district receiving Title I funds must notify parents of each student attending any school receiving Title I funds that they may request, and the district will provide the parents on request (and in a timely manner), information regarding the professional qualifications of the student’s classroom teachers, including at a minimum, the following:
Whether the teacher has met State qualifications and licensing criteria for the grade levels and subject areas in which the teacher provides instruction;
Whether the teacher is teaching under emergency or other provisional status through which State qualification or licensing criteria have been waived; and
Whether the teacher is teaching in the field of discipline of the certification of the teacher;
Whether your child is provided services by paraprofessionals and, if so, their qualifications.

The Pleasant Ridge School Foundation (PRSF) is the nonprofit arm of PRM, which allows PRM to fundraise and accept tax-deductible donations. The Foundation is made up of parents/guardians, staff and community volunteers who develop large scale initiatives to benefit the school, the students and the staff as well as to financially support the PTO, Boosters, and other parent and/or staff-supported groups.
The Foundation meets the third Wednesday of the month at Community Happens Here @ 6:30pm and encourages anyone to attend.

We offer a variety of sports throughout the school year and also support our Brain Bowl team. Fall soccer is getting started with first games happening this weekend and later this month, basketball and cheer sign-ups will be available. Watch for an email, flyer and post with the registration link for winter sports which will go live on September 15th.
ILT
Some important reminders from the Instructional Leadership Team include: - Make sure your child knows how they go home each day. Even if you walk them across the street to the church parking lot to drive home, they are still considered walkers in the dismissal process.
- If you have younger children with car-seats in your car, that are not attending school at PRM, please consider moving their car-seats to the driver side. All students enter and exit carline from the passenger side to keep them safe.
- If your child needs to be buckled in a car-seat please have them get in your car, sit down and then you can pull up and over to the side of the front of the loading line. When you are out of the way then you can get out and make sure all kids are safely buckled. - Staff are not allowed to buckle or unbuckle your child's car-seats/seatbelts.

School Team Reports
3-6 News:
Here are some of the things happening now in the 3-6 communities:
We are learning to care for our bodies and our environments. We are working hard on knowing our daily jobs, rules, and routines. We are also busy with friendship bracelets, bead cutting, bead stair counting, planisphere map work, corn picking, solar system and Earth work, counting on, and lots of work on beginning sounds. We are off to a great start!
6-9 News:
The 6-9 team is excited to be settled into the school year and to begin our work with the students. We have been practicing classroom and building-wide routines and expectations. Each classroom reviews these frequently and provides time to practice. Our beginning of the year tests are coming to an end and our support teams will begin working with students. A few classrooms will be participating in a field trip this month, and next month the entire team will be visiting the Children’s Theater. We would like support from you in the following ways: please ensure students arrive to school on time and are picked by 2:25pm each day. Our direct lessons begin at 8:05am and students miss valuable instruction when they arrive
late. Also, there are colds going around which is very typical for our back-to-school season, please keep your student home if they are showing any signs of illness so our community can stay healthy!
9-12 News:
The 9-12 team has started the year strong!
Our focus is on building community with our students and developing strong habits for a successful year. Students are using their school planners daily to record their homework. Please check their planners nightly. Wednesday folders carry school communication home weekly. Please return these to school each week. Beginning of the year testing is already underway. The teachers are gathering this important data to help us meet the needs of our diverse learners. Please reach out to the 9-12 team if you have any questions. We are looking forward to a wonderful year!
Specialist Team:
Technology – FORMS, FORMS and more FORMS!
Yes, you read that right. The first few weeks for tech, seems to be all about paperwork. Students are learning the expectations and procedures for the class, they are logging into the computer (many for the first time) and they are then logging into Google and Microsoft (logging into the Active Directory). They are also learning to navigate to their assignments in Schoology, Learning.com, Typing Club, etc. They are signing their AUP/MDA documents and taking their beginning of the year Sumdog assessments. In addition to all of that, our library is officially up and running so time has been spent introducing the library and how it will work during technology class. It's usually after mid-terms that we have crossed all our 't's' and dotted our 'i's' and can get started with the meat of our technology curriculum. -Mr. David
