Hello Spicewood Family!

We have some big events coming up next week! Please make sure to read through the information regarding Specials Spirit Week, One World One Night, and our Auction and Gala. A huge thank you to all the parents and teachers involved in planning and orchestrating these events. It is amazing to see everyone come together to support Spicewood!

This past Wednesday, March 22nd, we celebrated World Water Day to raise awareness for the 2 billion people in our world without access to safe water. The Austin non-profit Well Aware visited our 5th graders early in the week to share about the clean water systems they've been building in East Africa. Our 5th graders took action by recording Broadcast segments, hanging posters around the school, and gathering gallons of water for their Water Walk that took place this morning. Students walked the track without and then with their gallon of water to experience what many women and children have to do on a daily basis in order to access water. We also are celebrating raising over $2,600 for Well Aware! Big shoutout to Ms. Vinta and her class for raising enough money to supply clean water to at least 177 people for life! Feel free to add to our contributions. Our Spicewood community is making a true impact.

Please help us celebrate Specials Spirit Week next week! We will have fun dress up days next week as we celebrate Art, Music, and PE. We will culminate with our Jersey Day that was earned through donations through our Pad the Panther Campaign.

Our annual Field Day will be on Thursday, April 20th. Show your spirit and support the PE department by ordering a Field Day shirt today! Order forms can be found in your child's Friday Folder as well as downloaded here. This is a fundraiser to help with the purchasing of inflatables on Field Day and equipment for the students throughout the school year. Please turn in order forms and payment by Friday, March 31st!

We are also looking for volunteers to help make the big day feel special and run smoothly! If you're interested and available, please take a moment to fill out our Sign-Up Genius and sign up for one (or more) 50-minute time slot. Thank you so much!!!

Our 1st graders are studying chicks and their life cycle! We have 18 hatching eggs that are expected to hatch around Tuesday, April 11th. If you or someone you know would like any of these chicks, please fill out this form to make a request. Once hatched, Ms. Cimo will contact you to arrange a time for pick up. Please be sure that you have everything needed as they require specific supplies and food. Thank you for helping provide a home for our Spicewood chicks! Special shoutout to Tammy Dendy for finding the egg connection and picking them up in San Marcos!

It is time to begin enrolling your incoming kindergarten students. Online enrollment opened on March 7th. We will have a Kindergarten Round Up event in May. Please visit the website on the flyer to begin submitting documents and completing enrollment.

If you know of any kindergarten age children that will attend Spicewood, please spread the word that it is time to enroll!

The Spicewood PTA is currently taking nominations for board positions for the 2023-2024 school year. Board positions can be filled by parents, grandparents, caregivers, or community member who work full time, part time, or not at all. The board is made up of people from diverse backgrounds who care about Spicewood Elementary, our students and our educators. The goal of board service is to help in planning for the overall support of our school. There are roles available for every interest!
