February
"There is always something to do. There are hungry people to feed, naked people to clothe, sick people to comfort and make well. And while I don't expect you to save the world, I do think it's not asking too much for you to love those with whom you sleep, share the happiness of those whom you call friend, engage those among you who are visionary, and remove from your life those who offer you depression, dispair, and disrespect."
-Nikki Giovanni Jr, poet and professor
Black History Month
February is Black History month and the library has put together drop-in activities for students and staff to participate in to help honor and support the accomplishments, contributions, and history of people of African descent. In addition, the library is once again going to host our annual African American Read-In! This event brings together students and staff to read and listen to short selections from an author of African descent. This year we decided to host it during AcLab so we can have all the students together at once, as well as offer new activities for the students to participate in. Some of which will include, kindness rocks, window graffiti, and African drumming. We'll have flyers around the school, but we'd appreciate it if you could also pass the information along to your students.

Please share this information with your students so we can spread more kindness and engage our kids in caring activities. Also, the library plans on continuing to "craft for a cause" throughout the school year and would love suggestions for groups we can coordinate with. If you know of any organizations that might work, please email us with your suggestion(s).
