English Department
All English classes provide students with rigorous content that further develops and enhances their English skills. Students in Mrs. Goin’s ELD classes use Scholastic informational texts to study real-life teenagers. By using material that bridges the development of English skills to ELA courses, gives students who may have limited English proficiency the opportunity to communicate in the English language, interact with peers to discuss a text, and develop academic vocabulary and academic skills.
Groundwater Recycling System Field Trip
On March 23, Chemistry students took a field trip to the Groundwater Recycling System in Fountain Valley. GWRS is the largest facility of its kind in the world. It uses a three-step advanced process to clean wastewater to drinkable standards (Microfiltration, Reverse Osmosis, and UV light with Hydrogen peroxide). The clean water produced is then sent back into the ground to replenish groundwater in Orange County. Students toured the facility in hard hats and safety vests and were able to see this modern facility up close. This field trip was funded by a generous grant from the Walnut Valley Water District’s Splash Cash program, promoting creative classroom projects that increase students’ awareness of the importance of water.
Seal Beach Clean Up
The FCCLA, CSF, Interact, and EnviroSci Clubs joined forces and organized a community service event. Our students removed debris from the San Gabriel River and the shoreline of Seal Beach as they were supervised by Ms. Rivas, Mrs. Taylor, and Mr. Luera. The students helped improve the local marine environment by participating in the beach cleanup while realizing that saving Mother Earth is a collaborative effort.

Weekly Wellness
This month’s theme is Empathy. What does empathy mean? Showing someone compassion and empathy means you’re able to understand and share the feelings of another person. Understanding what someone is going through helps you understand their behavior and helps you become a better friend. What can you do to be more compassionate toward others? Showing someone kindness can not only improve their day BUT yours as well. Remember, how you treat others matters!
