Greetings MVLA Families!

It's almost time. School starts July 20th. In preparation, I will host a meeting for parents Wednesday July 6th at 5:30pm via zoom to review Title One policies and answer as many questions as we can.

As you review it, please let me know if you have other ideas and/or feedback. We can adjust it as we need to to address the needs of our school community.

Some of you have already expressed interest in signing up for PTO or the School Advisory Committee. If you are still interested, please fill out the following Google Form.

Unless the group indicates another time, we will try to have our PTO meetings on the third Thursday of each month.

As many of you have already discovered, we are not sending out a supply list just yet. Fret not, we have a lot of supplies here. Your student will not go without. We simply need to meet with our new staff to ensure we are only asking for true needs and not just having parents spend money needlessly.

July 20th will be the first day for all 6th graders.

July 21st will be the first day back for all students.

1. We would like to start a MVLA 4H club, but we need a volunteer to head that up. If you're interested, please let us know as soon as possible so we can get that started.

3. We are also ALWAYS looking for volunteers to run My Times and if you would like to sign up for next year, I will take your information now. We can get your volunteer packet completed over the Summer.

Students are only allowed to use their cell phones before school, at lunch and after school. If you need to speak to your child or get a message to your child during the day, please call the front office at 527-6059 and we will get the message to your student.

If your child does not feel well, please tell them they need to come see the nurse and she will contact you if they need to be picked up. Students should not be calling or texting parents during the day unless it is from the office with an adult present.

Cell phones can be a huge distraction at school and we need your help to address this very real problem.

Here are a couple of things you can do this Summer to prepare for the upcoming school year. Our teachers rarely use the consumable workbooks that the District provides because we do so many hands-on projects. That means we have workbooks coming out of our ears! If you would like to pick one (or some) up to use to keep your skills sharp, just let me know and we will get you some.

Also, we are working to ensure your students have access to tutoring whenever they may need it. Students from Arrowhead have set up a tutoring service that is a first come first serve basis. I'm including the link here to make sure our kiddos have that first opportunity if they would like it:

Mesilla Valley Leadership Academy is a 6-8 school of choice here in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Started by Dr. Toni Hull, we are a RCA inspired project-based school. We have five houses who all compete to win the coveted Title of Champions each year.
