A GREAT Year at GWA
As we approach the end of another school year at George Walton Academy, we can’t help but reflect on the accomplishments of our students. Members of our senior class are all admitted to the college of their choice. The cooperation and collaboration of our parents and staff have prepared them well for what lies ahead. Our rigorous curriculum, coupled with high expectations, will ensure future academic success.
Our students have also excelled this year in athletics. For the first time in the 54-year history of the school, our girls' varsity basketball team won the state championship. The final night of the state championship at Mercer University in Macon was very special for our GWA family. We also celebrated state championship wins for both varsity lacrosse teams, state championship athletes in swimming, and wrestling as well as a national champ in equestrian. We are so very proud of all of them!
Many of our other athletic teams have achieved region championships this year with numerous GWA athletes being named to All-Region teams. Participation in athletics is at an all-time high with 91% of our upper school students participating in at least one sport. Congratulations go to our coaches who have worked so hard. Several have been selected as Region Coach of the Year in their respective sport.
The Fine Arts program continues to shine. Our award-winning band excelled this year as usual, bringing home first place trophies in every competition they entered. Our Art students created some unbelievable works. Our dancers and musicians from lower, middle, and upper schools performed exceptionally well.
Our students enjoyed many activities beyond the classroom during the school year such as class retreats, trip week for middle school, and Winter Term that includes internships and international travel to England, France, and Spain as part of our exchange program.
This year has been a record year for GWA in fundraising. Due to the generosity of our families, corporate partners, and supporters, our Lucky Dawg Gala set a new record, raising over $250,000 for our school. We are so thankful to all of those who made this possible!
Growth is inevitable for George Walton Academy. Our admissions department has enrolled over 100 new students to date. We are anticipating a growth of 40-50 students for the next school year. We are adding an additional K3 class for next year which is already full with a waiting list.
The new middle school gym is underway with an anticipated completion date in the August/September time frame. Practice areas for cheerleading and wrestling are included in this project.
We continue to be grateful for our exemplary Board of Trustees. Their support, trust, and encouragement is unwavering. Our professional and caring staff is amazing. Their hard work and dedication to our students ensures success. The involvement of our families in the education of their children is gratifying. We appreciate their partnership, volunteerism, and generosity. The future is indeed bright at GWA!
On behalf of our faculty and staff, GWA wishes everyone a safe and enjoyable summer.
Mr. Gary Hobbs
Head of School
K5 Grads!
Congratulations to our youngest graduates and new first graders! Students did a great job at last night's graduation ceremony. K5 parents will receive a link for the complete photo gallery via email this afternoon.
Governing in Griffinia
Our “Griffinia Government” legislative session has come to an end! Eighth-grade students in Mr. Griffin’s class wrote bills to improve their counties. They each served on committees to vote on other bills. As part of the process, the class had many esteemed GWA faculty come to each session to serve in one of three roles: governor, supreme court justice, or lobbyist (who advocated for the bills). It was a wondrous time, and the students were so appreciative of the time that these educators gave to their class! Ironically, our classes averaged 33.2% of their bills passing; the state of Georgia typically passes 33%.
Don't miss the final opportunity to join this educational adventure. Two spots are still open. Please contact Mrs. Suzy if you are interested at squinlan@gwa.com.

Colorful Creations
Mrs. Carver's third-grade students studied Georges Seurat and pointillism, a technique of painting developed in the late 1800's in which small, distinct dots of color are applied in patterns to form an image. Students loved using their technique to create colorful works using watercolor paint.
