Welcome to the NEW Perry Newsletter!
Welcome Perry families and HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Some of you may be wondering why we've decided to change the way the newsletter looks. By using this platform, we are now able to consistently include all families. We are able to include more pictures and families now have the opportunity to select their preferred language.
At the bottom in the "Resources for you!" section, you'll find all the links that were in our previous newsletter and more!
We hope you enjoy!

New ABA Classroom Launches
We welcomed our newest Perry students over the last two weeks to our K0/ K1 ABA classroom. Ms. Hennessy, Ms. Cruz and Mr. Onamen have done an outstanding job getting our students used to a full day of school and ready to be successful learners. Our students have also done a wonderful job helping to ensure our newest students feel a valued part of our community.

Boston Children’s Chorus has extended an invitation to the Perry Community for their upcoming Dr. Martin Luther King Tribute Concert at Boston Symphony Hall this Monday January 16th, at 4:00pm.
BCC is passionate about harnessing the power of music to share vital messages about social justice with the local community and would love to have any Perry families join them.
For students, we are able to offer a deal of $1 (plus Box Office fee of $6.50) for any $15-30 seat in the house with the booking code BPS1. This code can be used in advance via online booking.
MidYear MAP Testing
This week, students in K2 through Grade 6 are taking the midyear MAP test. The MAP Test takes about 30 minutes to an hour per subject and serves as a tool for tracking student progress. It allows us to see what students know and what they are ready to learn next and can help inform next steps in terms of instruction, grouping and any small group interventions. As a reminder, K2 to 2nd grade students take the MAP Fluency and 3rd to 6th graders take the MAP Growth. Results will also be shared with families in the weeks to come.
Morning arrival tips for parents
We know it can be hard for both parents and children to part ways in the morning.
It's understandable that they’re going to have some anxiety especially considering the many transitions and changes that have happened over the past couple of years.
Sometimes soothing the distress right away may appear to be the best thing but we’ve learned that it can typically increase anxiety over time. We want to provide students and families with strategies so they can self soothe and find coping skills that will work for them in times of distress. These are skills that can be applied to not only morning arrival, but to other transitions throughout the day. By fostering these coping skills, we are hoping to empower students to be more confident in themselves and manage new situations. Click the link below:
Facilities Improvements for Health and Safety
Over the past six months, we’ve been prioritizing and advocating for facilities improvements that would help to ensure health and safety for all. While it may not be the most exciting work, safety is our number one priority, so we feel like it is critical work. Here is a slide that recaps the facilities improvements that we’ve partnered with BPS to make thus far: Perry Facilities Improvements, Fall 2022.
