Join us tonight in the Upper Campus cafeteria for our second GLOBE Elementary community session
Join representatives from GLOBE's Board of Directors, our Executive Director, and our partners at Freespace Architecture in UC’s cafeteria, tonight at 7:30 p.m.
In this session, you will be able to learn more about GLOBE Elementary, ask questions (you may wish to review the FAQs first), and provide input on our school’s new home for kindergarten through 5th grade. The session will also be streamed live on our YouTube channel, and available to view at your convenience.
Our first community session, held at LC last week, can be viewed here.
AANHPI Heritage Month
Thank you to all the volunteers who signed up to create posters to celebrate Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander (AANHPI) figures. The picture shows just a few examples of the wonderful creations that are on display in the hallways. Students will experience the culminating event of AANHPI Heritage Month today at LC, including a visit from guest speaker Nicole Kang Ahn, a Korean-American artist.

Chess teams presented with 2023 qualifier trophies
1st and 3rd grade GLOBE Chess teams were presented with their 2023 chess tournament qualifier trophies for their winning scores. Part of our after school enrichment program, this is the second year in a row that GLOBE chess teams have been invited to the state finals. Congratulations to the teams and coaches!
The second part of the Spring Concert at LC will take place tomorrow, Thursday, May 18.
12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m - 1st grade English homerooms only (Gordon, Fisher, Bates). 1:45 p.m. to 2:15 p.m - Kindergarten English homerooms only (Gonzalez, Fite, Darbouze).
Students learn the art of puppetry
During 3rd grade Art class, students discovered the art of puppetry, created rod puppets, and learned about puppets from different cultures and how they can be used to educate, entertain and bring people together. Classes learned about Amal, a large-scale walking puppet created in 2021 to bring global awareness to the plight of refugees.
It's time to return those library books
Please return your library books as soon as possible, before the end of the school year. We are currently missing 118 books from children on the Mandarin track, 139 from students on the French tract and 161 from Spanish track students. Families will be charged on MyPaymentsPlus for any missing or destroyed books. Thank you.Upper Campus notes
Special Agent visits 4th grade Mandarin class
4th grade students received a visit from Mike Williamson, father to 4th grade Mandarin track student Gracie Williamson, and a Special Agent with the FBI.
Highlighting practical ways in which language learning can help students in the future, Mike spoke about his role as a community helper and addressed the crucial role of linguists at the FBI. Linguists translate, interpret and write in almost every language. This is a vital resource in some of the time-sensitive investigations.
The students really enjoyed the experience and asked some very thoughtful questions. They discussed the various jobs within the FBI, the types of crimes investigated, and most importantly how to stay safe. One particular topic of interest was how to stay safe online, whether on communication platforms or social media.
7th and 8th grade Dance
The 7th and 8th grade dance takes place this Friday, May 19, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the UC cafeteria (download flyer). We hope everyone can attend!
Song requests for the DJ - Add your favorites here. Volunteer - Sign up here. Purchase tickets at MyPaymentsPlus.
The GLOBE Academy feels that financial reasons are never a reason a child should not attend an activity. Please complete this form if you need assistance paying for this activity.
Music
The Orchestra and Art classes attended Six Flags over Georgia on Saturday, May 13. The 6th grade “Owl Orchestra” performed at the Music in the Parks Festival and was awarded an Excellent rating along with a huge trophy. Almost 100 students were able to attend and we would like to thank all of the very dedicated (and exhausted) chaperones for making the day such a success, and without whom the trip would not have been possible.
Orchestra Spring Concert
The Orchestra Spring Concert takes place tomorrow, May 18 at 5:00 p.m. Everyone is invited to the UC Auditorium to watch the performance. The Chorus Spring Concert took place last night. Look out for images in next week's newsletter.

Board of Directors
End-of-year survey
Thank you to those of you who have already taken our end-of-year survey about your GLOBE experience this school year. If you have not yet done so, please complete it today. (It should only take about five minutes.)
We know we’re asking for a lot of input these days. It’s because we care what you think and want to make sure we’re acting in the interest of our community!
Strategic planning
On that note, please remember to share your input on the 2024–29 strategic plan. We want to get a clear understanding of what is most important to our community, so we can use these priorities to shape GLOBE’s next five years.
This survey is deliberately open-ended; as the design of our strategic plan progresses, you’ll see additional opportunities to provide more narrowly focused input.
Committee recruitment
The Board continues to seek volunteers for committee service. If you are interested in getting involved, please let us know.
Board of Directors meeting
The next Board of Directors meeting will be held on Monday, May 22 at 7:00 p.m. To register and view a copy of the draft agenda, please click here.
Would you like to be a Host Family in 2023/24?
GLOBE is looking for Host Families for the year 2023/24. Language Support Assistants (LSA) from China, France, and Spain, are an essential piece of instruction at The GLOBE Academy and we are excited to have the opportunity to continue this wonderful support program. Please reach out to Mrs. Daphna Malka if you are interested in hosting.
