Update/ School News
- It's hard to believe, but there's only 3 weeks left in the first semester! This is a good time to check your grades and fix anything that needs fixed. Your semester grade (the grade that goes on your record) is composed of your quarter 1 grade, your quarter 2 grade, and your final exam grade (if your class has a final). See your teachers or counselors for more information. Additionally, we're in the heart of state testing. State testing matters again this year, so make sure you're doing your best. Thank you to all the students worked so hard on the Math MCAP testing!

December PBIS Students of the Month
9th Grade: Ella Downie is the student of the month for the Class of 2027. Ella was nominated by Mr. Newberry, who says “Ella has excelled at reverse engineering and designing and building a mini golf course. She is very creative and a leader in group activities. She does her part and more in finishing group projects. She also communicates well to get things done! When she has questions, she doesn’t hesitate to ask for clarification. She has also done well with CAD design throughout the semester and is able to put ideas she has on paper into a 3D environment. She always has a positive attitude and perseveres through difficult tasks!” Ella’s favorite class so far has been Gym with Mr. Blanchfield “because I have the opportunity to learn how to play sports and games that I wouldn't have tried if I didn't have that class and teacher.” After high school, Ella has big plans. She wants to go to college outside of Maryland, get a degree in business, and become a professional cosmetologist. For Ella, being Colonel TOUGH means “to always do the best you can do. The most important part for me is obtaining goals.”
FUN FACT: Ella loves Taylor Swift!
10th Grade: Sean Campbell is the student of the month for the Class of 2026. The CRHS cafeteria staff nominated Sean this month, noting that “Sean is constantly treating everyone with respect! He is very kind when going through the lunch line and always treats us with respect! Keep up the great work, Sean!” Additionally, Ms. Dennis gave Sean a shout-out for obtaining goals and having heart, saying: “Sean always leaves class with a positive message to me about my day. He always completes the tasks at hand and stays on task, making him a great role model for his peers of what it means to Obtain Goals in the classroom!” So far, Sean has liked all of his classes equally and a lot. In the future, he wants to become a cook and be able to share his food with many people. All parts of being TOUGH are important to Sean, but the most important is “to have heart and to be nice to everyone no matter who they are.”
FUN FACT: Sean loves cats!
11th Grade: Dominic Dunn is the student of the month for the Class of 2025. Mrs. Burkett nominated Dominic “because he obtains his goals and treats others with respect. He maintains exemplary grades by working hard, producing high-quality work, and participating in class. When working with a team, Dominic is motivational, and focused, and consistently becomes the team leader. He is kind and respectful to his classmates as well as his teachers and is a fantastic student and person!” Well, the feelings are mutual. Dominic says his favorite class is English 11 with Mrs. Burkett because she “is a fantastic teacher. She makes learning fun.” For Dominic, being TOUGH means “doing your best every day.”
FUN FACT: Dominic works as a mechanic!
12th Grade: Brayden Welzel is the student of the month for the Class of 2024. Brayden earned a shout-out this month from Ms. Towers, who said: “Brayden is always willing to help in the classroom and his classmates, even when he is not asked. He also does everything to the best of his ability and asks insightful questions!” Brayden’s life at CRHS is all about engineering. It’s his favorite class “because I’m with my friends.” It’s the centerpiece of his future plans, and it relates to what makes him TOUGH - obtaining his goal of going to college to study Engineering!
FUN FACT: Brayden likes to hunt!

Hearing & Vision Screenings
Healthy vision and hearing is important for your child’s success in school. State law requires school systems to have students’ hearing and vision screened when they enter the school system for the first time. Hearing and vision screenings are scheduled to begin on 1/8/24.
Students who should not be included in the screenings include:
Those whose parents/guardians object in writing to the screenings on the grounds that it conflicts with the tenets and practice of a recognized church or religious denomination of which they are a member;
Those with known hearing loss, including but not limited to, students with cochlear implants or hearing aids; and
Those who present evidence of testing within the last year.
If your child falls into any of these categories or if you have any questions, please reach out to the school nurse directly at 410-479-3612 or via email at hoffman.cynthia@ccpsstaff.org
