CSD Board Briefings

The Governing Board and staff continued to discuss various options and areas to be adjusted to move our educational program forward and remain fiscally solvent with a positive certified budget with a minimum of 3% reserve. The Board provided direction to include the potential reductions given by staff to include in the first interim (December 2019). In doing so the District would meet a minimum 3% reserve with adjustments made in 2020-21 and 2021-22. As we move forward, staff and the Board will discuss additional options to work toward a balanced certified budget and uphold high educational standards for our students.

Mr. Matt Hill, Director of Educational Technology, and Mr. Mujtaba Rauf, Director of Informational Technology, presented the District's basic needs in regard to technology for the 2020-21 and 2021-22 school year. The presentation informed the Governing Board of Trustees to help them make decisions in terms of options for technology in the next few years. One item discussed was when comparing the current use of iPads with other similar devices, Mr. Hill's recommendation was to stay with iPads and not switch to another device. No decisions were made at this time and budget allocation for future years will be brought back.

Bagby Elementary School Principal Mr. Michael Kretsch and Fammatre Elementary School Principal Ms. Jackie Smith provided an update of their school sites' Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) for the 2019-20 school year. This update included an overview of the CAASPP 2019 student results, goals, actions and services for improving student outcomes according to the eight priorities set by the state in alignment with the District's Local Control Accountability Plans.

The Governing Board voted to approve the collective bargaining agreement with CSEA. Dr. Andrews recognized the CSEA/District negotiating teams for their hard work. CSEA employees now will receive the same percentage increase in compensation and benefit cap increase as other employees. Upon the recommendation of CSD Superintendent Dr. Carrie Andrews, the Governing Board of Trustees voted to ratify the agreement between CSEA and Cambrian School District, effective through June 20, 2022.

The Governing Board voted to set their annual Board organizational meeting for Thursday, December 19, 2019. This is when the Board will vote upon new roles for Board members for the coming year (President, Vice President, and Clerk), and set the Board calendar for 2020.

The Governing Board voted to approve the updated Board Policy and Procedure on intradistrict transfers.

Cambrian Schools will be closed Monday, November 25-Friday, November 29th. Schools will be resume Monday, December 2, 2019. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday!

The Cambrian School District Board of Trustee will hold the next meeting on Thursday, December 19, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. in the Professional Development Center at the District office, 4115 Jacksol Drive. The public is encouraged to attend each of this meeting.
