Student Transportation Parent Portal
The Newfoundland and Labrador English School District introduced its Student Transportation Parent Portal to families two years ago. This Parent Portal is the best way to access and review your childâs transportation information online. A letter outlining the login process and login information will be included with student report cards.
This portal will tell you if your child is eligible for transportation or not based on their civic address . If your child is eligible for transportation, the portal will also provide you with your childâs bus stop assignment and the pickup and drop off times in the morning and afternoon. You will also be automatically signed up to receive email notifications about routing changes throughout the school year.
If you have any transportation questions, please submit a Student Transportation Public Inquiry Form which can be found on the Student Transportation Icon on the NLESD website (www.nlesd.ca).
Return School Library Books and Textbooks
As the school year draws to a close, we kindly remind you to return any borrowed school library books and textbooks on or before June 22nd, 2023.
Returning these materials promptly ensures that they are available for other students to use in the future and helps us maintain a well-stocked and valuable library resource. It is crucial that we all contribute to the responsible use and preservation of these educational resources.
Class Placement Process
The classroom placement process is very complex and many factors enter into the decision making process. Our staff takes class placement very seriously. The task for each grade level team is to develop balanced classrooms based on the knowledge they have about their students. We assure you that each grade level team (with assistance of specialists, guidance counselor, instructional resource teachers) takes much time, effort and care in developing class rosters that result in offering all children a quality educational experience.
Following are factors that are taken into consideration:
- the program needs of the child (IEP, ISSP, Student Assistant Support, Reading/Numeracy Interventions, etc.)
- a balanced ratio of boys to girls
- a balance of academic achievement levels
- behavior factors regarding each student
- social needs and the compatibility of students with others in the classroom
- independent work habits and leadership skills
Once balanced rosters are created, teachers are assigned by the school administration. Since our number one goal is to create balanced classrooms, we are unable to honor requests for students to be placed with specific friends, teachers or classes. Thank you in advance for your understanding and support of this process and be assured we will do all we can to ensure thoughtful placement of each child.
Are You Planning to Move?
It is at this time of year that we begin planning for the next school year. If you have plans to move from this school zone over the summer please inform the school office sacredheartacad@nlesd.ca
2023-2024 School Calendar
Change to First Venture Cafeteria Meal Prices September 2023
We wanted to inform you about an upcoming change regarding cafeteria meal prices at the First Venture Cafeteria, effective September 5th, 2023.
After careful consideration and assessment of their current financial situation, First Venture Cafeteria have found it necessary to adjust the cost of cafeteria meals to $5.00. This price increase is primarily due to the rising costs of food and other essential supplies, which have significantly impacted their budget.
The increased cost of food items, ingredients, and necessary resources required to prepare and serve meals in the cafeteria have gradually risen over time. In order to continue delivering meals that meet the nutritional needs of our students, this adjustment has become necessary to sustain cafeteria operations.
