2024's Black History Month theme is a celebration of African Americans and the Arts. The LVMS Library is showcasing the rich cultural contributions of African American Artists, Musicians, Performers, and Authors as:
- Coretta Scott King Award winning authors: Nikki Grimes, Jacqueline Woodson, Mildred D. Taylor, Jerry Craft, , Jason Reynolds, Angie Thomas, and Rita Williams Garcia
- Poets: Langston Hughes, Amanda Gorman, Nikki Giovani, Kwame Alexander, and Walter Dean Myers
- Dancers: Misty Copeland, Michaela DePrince

Newest Award Winning Books
The LVMS Library is eagerly awaiting the arrival of the newest award winning books. Past winners are currently on display.
- John Newbery Medal for the most outstanding contribution to children's literature
- Randolph Caldecott Medal for the most distinguished American picture book for children
- Coretta Scott King Book Award recognizing an African American author and illustrator of outstanding books for children and young adults
- Michael L. Prinz Award for excellence in literature written for young adults
- Schneider Family Book Award for books that embody an artistic expression of the disability experience
- Pura Belpré Awards honoring Latinx writers and illustrators whose children's and young adult books best portray, affirm and celebrate the Latino cultural experience.
- The Robert F. Sibert Informational Book Award for most distinguished informational book for children.

LVMS Spring Sports Information
2024 Spring Season - (B/G Track, Baseball, and Softball)
Physicals Due Date - Mar 15th
Tryout/Practice Start dates - Apr 1st
End Date of Overall Season - Jun 9th
Students in Grade 6 are only eligible to participate in
Fall Cross Country and the Spring Track & Field Teams

Boys Baseball - 7th / 8th Grades
All players who would like to sign up for the LVMS Panther Baseball Team are reminded to submit their physical and parent permission paperwork by Friday, March 15. The LVMS Baseball Google Classroom join code is posted outside the North Gym. All players intending to try out need to join the Google Classroom by March 15.
Girls Softball - 7th / 8th Grades
All 7th & 8th Grade girls interested in trying out for the LVMS Girls Softball team should sign up outside Coach Demarest´s Room, Room 26. All girls intending to try- out must have their Physical & spring sports forms in to the nurse by March 15 to try- out. Softball tryouts are scheduled to begin April 1st through April 4th. Players should also complete a player form and return to Coach ASAP which can be found by the sign-up sheet.. See Coach Demarest Rm. 26 with any questions.
Boys and Girls Track & Field** - 6th - 8th Grades
Signups for the girls and boys Spring track teams will start on Tuesday, February 20th outside of Coach Petrucelli's room (36). There are no tryouts for Spring track, and all are welcome to participate. All paperwork, including completed physical forms, are due no later than March 15th.
