Daniel Webster Elementary School
Weekly Update:
A Message From Mrs. MacNeil
Greetings DWS Families!
What a special week! Thank you to all the families for sending in donations to fill our golden boot! I appreciate your partnership as we came together as a community to support and honor our brave warriors fighting childhood cancer, our strong survivors, and remember those who left us too soon. Our DWS community is sure filled with love and hope for the future!
In Partnership,
Mrs. MacNeil
DWS Goes Gold for Pediatric Cancer
What an amazing week! I loved watching their faces as they brought in their change to fill our golden boot! In total, the DWS collected an impressive $737.01. In true DWS fun fashion, we challenged our students to make an estimate of how much they thought we raised. The closest class won an extra special recess with Mrs. MacNeil and Mrs. Jackson next week. Mrs. Prendergast's kindergarten class guessed $737! I am so proud of our DWS students and so grateful to be part of this community!
School Council Nomination
Since the passage of the 1993 Education Reform Act, all schools in Massachusetts must form School Councils, which include representation from parents, teachers, the community, and school administration. The purpose of the School Council is to involve parents and teachers in school decision-making. The School Council will also formulate an annual school improvement plan with the goal to strengthen the bond between our school and the Marshfield community we serve. This plan is then submitted to the Superintendent and School Committee.
We are looking for TWO parents to join our School Council this year! We encourage all parents to consider this opportunity for meaningful dialogue and active participation in our Daniel Webster School community. The meetings are generally held once each month on Tuesdays at 4:00.

What's happening around DWS this week?
Students in Mrs. Bertulli's second-grade class are loving our new math program Bridges!
This week they learned a new game called "Match the Beetle". To begin, students created glyphs to represent themselves. Their beetles have characteristics that show their favorite season, how many people are in their families, favorite sport, birth month, etc. Students then compared themselves to other classmates and graphed the information. Now, we play "Match the Beetle" by reading clues off of student-created clue cards, and try to find the beetle that represents each classmate! It has been a fun way to build community while practicing math skills like classifying objects into categories, looking for and making use of structure, and making picture graphs and bar graphs to represent data.

DWS Security Updates
As a security measure, we will not be letting visitors into the building unless you are volunteering. Visitors who have a scheduled meeting will wait in the vestibule and be escorted by the host to the meeting.
All visitors must present a valid ID - no exceptions! We understand that we know many parents/guardians, but we will be requiring ALL visitors to present their ID when they volunteer and/or pick up a student - EVERY TIME. This will be frustrating at first, but we are working hard to maintain the safety of our students.
