Lancer Update

Mailing is in the post office today! Busing, welcome letters, and much more is included. Please note, we are still working on schedules... We have printed them and put them in the mail but I already made some changes today! All students will get brand new schedules the first day of school, and if something looks off we will work on fixing it if we can!

All school supplies will be provided throughout the year within the classroom by the district. Incoming 6th grade students will get a new backpack with their laptops, and those that have been in the building should still have their backpack for the laptops!

Pencils, Pens, Paper, Markers, Folders... all of it will be at EIMS ready for students when teachers are in need of it during their lesson... Including a PLANNER for all students- Which will also account for their pass in the hallway during class time.

School starts at 7:30 am and doors open at 7:15 am.

If you are driving your child to school, drop off is in the North Parking Lot, not the bus loop. Drop off starts at 7:15 am. Pick up is at 2:18 pm (This is a change! Students on a bus will be released at 2:14 every day and once they leave the building, we will release walkers and pick up students around 2:18) in the same North Parking Lot. We are doing this to alleviate some footprint when releasing 675 students all at once with many different places to go.

East Irondequoit Middle School has a school rule that cell phones are not out during class time and that rule will be enforced this year at both the middle school and high school. There is a significant amount of data and research that suggests young minds are getting addicted to the social media and apps on their devices. We have built curricula in both our Health and CTE classes around healthy ways to use technology, but also want you to know that if we see a phone out in class, we will reiterate our expectations of putting it away with students. If that does not happen after a warning, the cell phone will be taken and given back at the end of the day.

The building is divided into two houses: Team Thunder and Team Lightning. This model will assist us in a few ways; it allows us to build a sense of family from 6th grade to 8th grade, align our curriculum, and allow our staff to build positive relationships with the students in their house and on their team.

If you are dropping off lunch for your child please be aware of the lunch times for our students

Please note that if something is ordered or dropped off for your child and it is past that time, we will hold on to that until after school for them.

You can go online and set up account for your child at eastiron.org and to fill out a free and reduces lunch form, or you can call the main office and we will gladly send a form home!

Our grading will be different this year for all subjects! If you are coming from LP/Durand, you will be more familiar with our outcomes-based grading. The gradebook and report card will be focused on outcomes for the quarter and how your child is doing on those outcomes throughout the time they are working on them. Instead of just one number for the entire quarter there will be a few outcomes that will have a rubric grade out of 4. This holistic approach will help inform you and your child of their specific strengths and areas for growth, instead of just seeing a grade that is passing or not. This new type of grading will be more consistent and clearer for all involved. The best way to monitor and see what is happening is looking at the parent portal and investigating each gradebook to see how your child is doing.

When entering the building a photo ID will be required every time you enter any building in the district. If you are entering the school and are needing to go past the main office your ID will also be scanned in a an ID software. Please be aware of this safety protocol.

EIMS PTSA will host their first meeting on Wednesday, September 27th in the Teacher Lounge and via Teams. A Teams Link will be sent out closer to the meeting date. The meeting begins each month with a Meet and Greet with the Principal at 6:30 pm. This is an open time to ask questions, bring forward concerns, or discuss new ideas with the Principal. The rest of the meeting comprises of planning and organizing PTSA business and events throughout the school year. We encourage all families to join the PTSA!

Families can go to https://hello.familyid.com to sign up for a fall sport. Clubs will start closer to October and will be posted in the Smore Newsletter, and in school, for your children. All other events are on the district calendar that was sent home earlier this summer.
