What's New and News for November 2023
Surveys....
As stated by the brilliant Stephen Hawking, "The latest surveys shows that 3 out of every 4 people make up 75% of the worlds population."
Help us make our surveys meaningful!
While there are days when I wish I could buy something -- anything - without being prompted to take a survey afterward, some surveys are critical to the immediate needs of our families, our school, our community. Please take the time to complete the surveys coming your way from us. Stay tuned -- Your voice will be heard and make a difference!
Fall is Budget Season
The SAU is well into developing our proposed budget for the Board to review. If you have ideas, suggestions, or thoughts about the budget or what will benefit Plainfield students, please be sure to get in touch with me, Ms. Bucklin, or attend a Board meeting so we can hear directly from you. The Board will continue its review of the FY (Fiscal Year) 2025 budget at their next meeting on December 12th at 5:30.
We Strive to Have Informed Voters! On the evening of November 21st from 7-8 pm, I'll be offering a second opportunity for a zoom on School Finance: How Your Schools Are Funded in New Hampshire. There's a zoom link attached here as well as below. We'll go through an overview of how our state funds our schools and how these formulas become part of our local budget process. Understanding this process is critical to understanding your local budget process and the upcoming annual meeting. I hope to see you there!
Joint School Board Meeting -- Cornish and Plainfield
The combined school boards of Cornish and Plainfield will be meeting together on November 27, 2023 at the Plainfield Elementary School Music Room beginning at 6 pm. This meeting is open to the public and is a great opportunity to learn about how our two districts share resources to the advantage of both towns and schools. The zoom link for this meeting can be found below.
One important topic of discussion at this meeting is an update on the middle school study. Through the Cornish Strategic Planning process and the Plainfield Middle School Study Committee, the Boards will discuss the information needed to determine the best model for serving middle school students in both communities.
Committee Work
There are multiple, very active committees going on in the Plainfield school community these days. On our website, you can clik on each committee's page to see the most current updates.
Education News from NH
As I send out these monthly newsletters, I'll be including information regarding education news from around the State of New Hampshire and our Department of Education (NHED).
The New Hampshire Legislature has already documented over 200 proposed bills relating to education. It's shaping up to be a very busy legislative season. If you're interested in learning more, please be sure to visit the NH Legislature page to see the full calendar and all drafts.
