School Council Highlights - September 14, 2021
We had our first parent council meeting on September 14 th and it was a great meeting where we discussed and got updates on many different topics. Here is a summary of the highlights of the meeting.
- Pam Boyson is this year’s parent council chair. Thanks to Pam for taking on this important
position!
- We received a staff report from Assistant principal Donna Elaschuck where she expressed how excited the staff was to be back in school and to meet the kids new to the school and reconnect with the students who are returning.
- Principal Jerrit Brandt encouraged all parents to view the staff introduction video so they can meet the staff at the school and put a face to a name.
- He gave us an update on enrolment. Currently, at the time of the meeting, there were 453
students doing in-person learning in the school.
- Council gave feedback to the administration about the timing of parent-teacher interviews. Last year interviews were moved closer to the beginning of the year in order to facilitate
communication and introductions between homeroom teachers, parents, and students.
The administration would like to keep the timing the same and the council agreed that the earlier interviews were appreciated last year.
- Fundraising was discussed. How can various groups within the school work together to make the most of our fundraising and not exhaust community and parent support. Items to fundraise for were mentioned by both administration and council and more discussion of fundraising will happen at the next meeting.
- It was mentioned if you are not receiving school emails or newsletters to please contact the
school to let them know.
- Our school council has a Facebook page and we encourage all those on Facebook to follow us you can stay connected with all the exciting things happening at the school. Find us at ” Ecole Charlie Killam School Council “
- We gave feedback on various ways that the school can communicate with parents and help
them feel connected with the school.
- Next parent council meeting will be on October 12th at 7 pm and will be online using Zoom.
Parent Council is a great way to stay connected with what is happening at the school. No experience is necessary and no commitment is required. Come out for the next meeting and see what parent council is all about!
