Welcome to our CTS Snapshot - a weekly celebration update. We are delighted to share with parents and carers alike student triumphs at Corby Technical School. We are proud of every student and every success they have - please feel free to share with us any achievements they might have.

Maths:
Miss Kaur has nominated 9A3 for their fantastic attitude to learning as always, some students Miss Kaur would also to highlight this week:
Riley – for completing his percentage change work to a really high standard but also solving quite complex calculations without the use of a calculator, well done Riley!
Sophie – for consistently meeting and surpassing expectations in the classroom, you are always working hard and this does not go unnoticed!
Kealan – for making a huge effort in understanding percentages, your effort is showing in your work, well done!
Mr Lee has nominated his Year 9 students for their hard work and efforts with our work on percentages this term.
The Maths department are proud of Year 11 for completing their second GCSE Paper. There were positive reactions to the exam and we look forward to another successful exam next week.
Miss Harrison has nominated 7A1 for their excellent start to percentages this week. They have shown a really strong understanding and have pushed themselves to tackle some trickier problems.
Mrs Wynn would like to congratulate 10A2 who have achieved excellent results on their first Maths assessment paper. Well done also to 9A2 and 9C2 for continuing to show great progress every lesson and 7P who have been working hard on non calculator percentages and have answered some very tricky questions.
Music:

Year 7:
Year 7 have spent this week's lesson learning about sequencing in music and have started recording in a hook for their new project, using their existing knowledge of notation. Miss Patrick would like to celebrate 7ST for demonstrating resilience this week during their GarageBand task - students have made a brilliant start on their sequencing project. A special mention to Ava and Maciej for their work this week.
Year 8:
Year 8 have performed as a Reggae group this week using a backbeat and a skank ukulele chord progression. Miss Patrick would like to celebrate 8TE who have worked really hard to perfect their off-beat rhythms. A special mention to Majka, Emily, Julia and Natalia for accurately switching between chords whilst maintaining the rhythm - great work!
Year 9:
Year 9 have spent this lesson learning more about The Beatles and have begun preparing their final projects - forming their very own Rock band! 9TA impressed Miss Patrick with their organizational skills and for effectively working collaboratively to assign appropriate roles as a group - well done!
Humanities:
Our year 9 geographers have just started a new topic, ‘Dark Geography’ with Mr Hallas. In this unit students will develop their understanding of those geographical issues that are both complex and hard hitting. This week we looked at who was to blame for one of the world’s worst industrial accidents – the chemical leak at Bhopal. A special mention needs to get out to 9SI who asked a range of thought-provoking questions on the events that resulted in this tragedy and whether it would happen today. Our next case studies will focus on piracy and blood diamonds.
Miss Forbes has nominated Year 12 Psychology students who are working hard towards finishing the content for this year. Also nominated are Year 11 students Amelia and Sarah, and Year 8 student Maisy for hard work and focus and Year 8 student Cameron for his awesome work both inside and outside of lesson linked to history as well as his model he has been creating with his Grandad.
Mr Foreman would like to congratulate 7CA RE for an excellent lesson on Friday 2nd June. All pupils were engaged and on task and gave some very good responses. Also nominated are

Mrs Brook has nominated Year 8 student Harvey who has built up a good knowledge of Sikhism this term showing hard work and excellent reading to the class during class reading.
Miss Buffini has nominated 8TE for their excellent work in RE this week.

Year 10 students for their resilience in their mocks. Good luck for your writing and your speaking! Also Charmaine in 10D for her kindness in helping tidying the room.
Year 7 student Max for his impeccable classroom manner, always attentive and practising his active listening. Melissa (7TE)for her high standards in her work, and for asking questions that will lead her further in Spanish. Also nominated are 11CSp1 for maintaining their attention in lessons despite their tiredness of the exams, Christopher (8CU) for his energy and participation, Oliwia (9TU) for always working full power in every lesson and Peter for his questions and good humour and finally, Alfred (7CA ) for always using his critical thinking to complete the challenge tasks.
Mr Cancelo-Gnavi has nominated Year 7 student Ruslan for his continuous hard work in Spanish.
DT and Engineering:
Mr McCrory has nominated Year 7 student Katie who has been working really hard on her multi-use acrylic holder in Engineering lessons. Also nominated is Year 10 student Ollie J who finished his metal lamp project. Year 10 students have been repurposing old metal toolboxes that were going to be disassembled and scrapped into table lamps, making use of a range of different materials and problem-solving skills to breathe life back into the materials. Images of these are below, the work has been very impressive.
Food Tech:
Year 10 Food GCSE had an inspirational trip to Moulton College Food and Drink Innovation Centre on Wednesday. They experienced what a day at college would be like on a Baking Level 2/3 Diploma course. The students all made chocolate brownies in the industrial kitchen there, and also had classroom experience exploring a business idea linked to their brownies. The students all did CTS proud, working independently in a kitchen space that was entirely new to them. Hope did especially well having only started the Food GCSE the day before and having done very little cooking previously.
Also nominated by Mrs Firmin this week are 9SI, 9SW and 9TE who have had a great week in the food room, learning about denaturation and coagulation of protein while making and eating fried eggs on toast. 8TE, 8SI, and 8SW have been making Baked Risotto and 7TA had their first attempt at dough this week and all produced some excellent Italian herb bread rolls.
Computer Science:
Year 7:
Mrs Macleod would like to congratulate the following Year 7CA/CS1 students for their work and effort on Networks. Students have been learning about the history of different communication methods. Students have learnt what a computer network is, along with the meaning of the word ‘protocol’. Students have made a connection between non-networking and networking protocols. Ellie, Cornelia, Cameron, Aarushi, Tarell, Ethan, Max, Nadia, Cornelia, Anna, Emma, Jody, Ariana, Analeigh, Isla, Keigan, Mark, Jahari, Alfred, and Josh.
Year 8:
Year 8CU/CS1 students have been working hard on the introduction of using Inkscape to create vector graphics. Students started by simply looking at using shapes to create an image. Students spent time drawing and modifying shapes using shape tools.
Year 9:
Students have created digital mosaics pixel by pixel, and gained experience how an image composed of individual-coloured elements can correspond to a sequence of binary digits. This will help them form an initial understanding of how the images that they encounter daily in their digital devices translate to nothing more than long strings of bits. The following student have worked well and put effort into getting their work completed to a good standard: Jude, Jayden, Emily, Losif, Olivia, Daniel, Lily-Mae, Bartosz, Junior, Tyler, Ivan, Aleksandra, Ryan, Joanna, Tymoteusz, Gurkirat, Ruby, Tia, Antonio, Ugne, Leyton, Nikola, Mateus, Vanessa, Lubo, Oliwia, Jasmine, Sian, Veronica, Millar, Peter, Katrina, George, Kyle.
Year 10:

PE:
Mr Clamp has nominated the following Year 7 students for representing CTS superbly at the Year 7 Athletics friendly. A particular notice to George who showed amazing resilience to finish the 100 metre hurdles:

Miss Williams has nominated her Year 8 group for great application of skill in rounders this week.
Science:
Mr Godfrey has nominated Year 12 student Oskar H for his approach to revising for the Year 12 mocks. Also nominated are Year 10 students Harry C and Veronika for their excellent attitudes to learning.
Miss Kritzinger has nominated Year 10 students Olivia, Nadia and Arina for a wonderful science lesson this week. Also nominated are Year 11 students Courtney, Keeley, Riley, Jazmine, Timotheos, Rhia, Hollie and Amelia for exceptional hard work for their last few science lessons.
Mr Tanangonan has nominated Year 9 students Ognjen and Cailin, they have worked really hard in Science, challenging themselves with the work and answering questions in the class.
Mr Anglim has nominated 9BZ for working hard and asking great scientific questions about the uses of electromagnetic waves.
Miss Coulson has nominated Year 11 student Riley for his amazing dedication to revision in preparation for his Science exams.
English:
Miss Vye has nominated 7AZ, 8BZ and 8CZ for their excellent attitude towards and effort in their end of year assessments. Miss Vye is looking forward to marking them!
Year 10 Engineering
Year 12 Coaching:
Year12 students have started coaching their Year 8 groups this week as part of their Unit2 Sport and PE course. The students delivered excellent sessions and the Year 8 students enjoyed them. Year 12 will continue to deliver a further 8 sessions as they work toward their assessment.
