Site Leader Corner: Sleep
Our bodies need and crave sleep. Did you know a 6-12 year old child needs at least 9 hours of sleep each night? And most need 10 hours to be successful in school. If you wake up your child at 6:30 AM, that means your child should be in bed by 8:30 PM. Also, make sure their bedroom is a device free zone. Have a device station in your kitchen for your family's devices to charge. It is recommended that users turn off their devices an hour before bedtime so that the effects of the "blue light" don't effect the quality of sleep.
Lunch on the Lawn Is Today!
Our first lunch on the lawn for the year is Friday, September 29. Parents are encouraged to join their child during their lunch and bring something to sit on. We have some picnic tables (thank you to our parent organization!) but we may run out of space. Also, please bring your quarters. There will be some snacks available for purchase. K-2 lunch is from 10:55-11:25 ; 3-4th lunch is from 11:55-12:25 and 5-8th grade is from 12:00-12:30 (all on the front lawn).
Parent Association Meeting Was A Success!
We are very grateful for all of the support that our families have shown us the last few months. We had 15 families represented at our initial meeting on Wednesday, September 13. We are developing three committees for parental involvement. Traditions/Special Events, Teacher Appreciation and Fundraising. Committees will meet as needed and the parent association will meet once/quarter. If you would like to join a committee, please email Mrs. Lydia Lafleur. Their next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, October 3 at 8:15 AM in the MPR.
World's Finest Chocolate Fundraiser
Starting 9/28, our campus is engaged in a fundraiser to help us purchase a half-basketball court. Flyers/permission slips went home with each student on Wednesday, 9/27. We can only send home a case of chocolate bars when a parent has returned the permission slip. Every child that sells one case of chocolate bars will get to participate in an ice cream truck party. Last day to check out a case of chocolate is 10/13 and all monies must be turned in by 10/20. Thanking you in advance for supporting our fundraiser.

Absences and Makeup Work - Page 9 in the Handbook
If a student is to be absent, parents should notify the teacher by 9:00 am on the first day and every day of the absence. For anticipated absences, parents are asked to give notice well in advance to the principal. Notice can be given by phone, email, or in writing. For excused absences, students are given the same number of days as the number of days missed to make up a test or to turn in make-up work. Make-up tests will be given at the discretion of the teacher within the allotted days, and students may be required to report to school early or stay late to make up tests. However, if there is a test given or assignment due on the day the student returns that he or she knew about or reasonably should have known about during the absence, and if the student was present for the original instruction (not review) related to the test or assignment, then the returning student will take the test or turn in the assignment on the day of return.
For excused absences of five days or more, teachers and the principal will formulate a personalized make-up plan for the student. With prior notification, the principal may allow students to make pre-arrangements for family or student trips, although such absences will still be considered unexcused. In such a case, the student must take all tests in advance of the trip and must turn in all work occurring during the trip immediately upon return to school. In any case of a missed test, for whatever reason, a make-up test may be different than the original test given to the rest of the class.
Administration of Medication

- Thank you for remembering to use your hands free connection while in carline.
- We appreciate you showing your carline sign on your rearview mirror up until the time your child gets into the vehicle.
- Please stay in your vehicle.
- Please pull up close to the vehicle in front of you.
- If you are not inside the gate, help us keep the line off of Jefferson Highway by creating two lines and take turns going into the gate.
Water Bottles!
Don't forget to send a refillable water bottle with your child each day. Water keeps your brain hydrated and it's hard to learn when you are thirsty and/or distracted by headaches. Per the handbook, please do not send your child with a sports drink or a sugary drink in their water bottle.

Digital Citizenship Week
Common Sense is the nation's leading nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of all kids and families by providing the trustworthy information, education, and independent voice they need to thrive in the 21st century. Their K–12 Digital Citizenship Curriculum was designed and developed in partnership with Project Zero at the Harvard Graduate School of Education -- and guided by research with thousands of educators. Each digital citizenship lesson takes on real challenges and digital dilemmas that students face today, giving them the skills they need to succeed as digital learners, leaders, and citizens tomorrow.
RSA teachers will integrate lesson plans into the daily lessons this week. We ask that families make a box together and have a "device free" dinner at least once this week. Be "present" at the dinner table together.
