From Mr. R's Desk
BOBCAT NATION
We are more than halfway through the end of the 1st Six Weeks. Teachers, please review your failure list. Contact should be made with any parent whose child received a grade lower than 70 in the 3 Weeks Progress Report. Remember, your parent contact log should mirror your failure list.
NOTE: The end of the 1st Six Weeks is Friday, September 30th. Please ensure that your grades are current so that there aren't any surprises at the end of the six weeks.
A Blueprint to Success
According to Mr. R.
- Have the end in mind. What will students gain from having you as a teacher?
- Know your audience! Connect your lessons with your students.
- Plan out the entire year [YAG]. Create benchmarks for each marking period.
- Collaborate with colleagues.
- Set high expectations from day 1 [academic and behavior].
- Have procedures in place.
- Create a plan for yourself and your students. "Don't tell me all students can learn; tell me what you will do when they don't."
- Spiral lessons and target hot spots.
- Monitor student progress [daily] via Exit Tickets.
- Tutor students and be accessible.
- Communicate with parents.
- Attend student events and activities. Build those relationships.
- Display student work.
- Student-created word walls are better than teacher-created ones.
- Students should be reading and writing daily.
- Create opportunities for student collaboration.
- Show up every day. Teacher attendance is vital to student success.
- Be passionate about student success not just your content.
- Create an environment where the teacher becomes the learner and the students become the teachers.
- Practice self-care and be intentional.
