West Hempstead Weekly Update

Thank you to everyone who came out to vote in the 2023-24 budget vote and trustee election. The proposed school budget was not approved: 1,169 yes and 1,310 no. The Board of Education will hold meetings in the coming days to discuss its options. Congratulations to the following candidates who were elected to the Board of Education:

Joseph Magaraci, 1,271 votes
David Lazar, 1,298 votes

Great news! After reviewing the District’s financials, Moody’s announced today that the District retained its strong Aa3 credit rating due to the District’s “healthy financial position supported by strong reserves and stable operations. A strong credit rating allows the District to borrow money at lower interest rates. The Rating Action has been released and is now public.

Our 7th annual Family STEAM Night will occur on Wednesday, May 31st, from 6-8 PM.

What a wonderful evening! Thanks to your support and the passing of the 2022-2023 budget, we witnessed our talented artists and musicians. We look forward to bigger and better in the future.

Then, as spring arrives, a vibrant transformation takes place, and the world bursts into life with the arrival of blossoms and greenery. In this season of growth, students' spirits soar, their eyes widen with wonder, and their hearts fill with excitement at the sight of a caterpillar inching its way along a branch.

Outdoor learning becomes a captivating adventure as students eagerly explore the natural world surrounding them. They embark on expeditions, both outdoors and in, to observe the miraculous life cycle of caterpillars, marveling at their transformation into graceful butterflies. With wide-eyed wonder, they witness caterpillars munching on leaves, constructing silk cocoons, and emerging as stunning winged creatures.

The excitement is contagious as students engage in hands-on experiences, nurturing their empathy and respect for all living beings. By observing these enchanting creatures up close, students understand nature's interconnectedness and the importance of preservation.
