E-Learning Day
Parents and Guardians,
As a reminder regarding this year’s academic calendar, Friday, March 8, 2024, is an eLearning day for students and teachers. Students will not report to school campuses but will engage in remote learning.
Students in grades K-5 will be provided assignments and instructional support in reading, math, science, and social studies. Student assignments will be located in Schoology for student retrieval and access. Once the assignments are completed, students may submit their assignments using the method requested by the classroom teacher.
Kindergarten through fifth grade classroom teachers will provide three support times via zoom to assist students with instruction, assignments, and/or answer instructional questions the students may have. Your child’s classroom teacher(s) will send an informational letter providing guidance and instructions on or before March 6, 2024.
If you have any questions concerning the eLearning day, please contact your child’s teacher or me for assistance. As always, thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Frazier Barnes
School Principal

Attendance
Good student attendance enhances learning. When a student is not in school, he/she misses valuable instructional time. HCS views attendance and academic achievement as equally important and has policies, procedures, and supports designed to encourage students to attend school.
Alabama law Section 16-28-3 requires that “every child between the ages of 6 and 17 years of age shall be required to attend a public school, private school, church school, or be instructed by a competent private tutor for the entire length of the school term in every scholastic year…” and are subject to this law. Parents/guardians are responsible for ensuring their student attends school. Failing to do so can result in penalties, including a fine up to $100.00 and up to ninety days in jail.
Late M2M Application Window Open Through July 15
The late Majority-to-Minority Application for the 2024-25 school year will be open through July 15, 2024. If you have a student going from Elementary to Middle School or from Middle to High School, you will need to reapply. View informational video: 2024-25 M2M Transfers.
