Kindergarten Report Card
2nd Grading Period 2016-2017
Where do I find my student's report card?
You will find your child’s report card using the Portfolio tab on the left hand side when accessing Family Access from your computer. If you are going through the Skyward Family Access app, you will need to open up the Full Menu at the top right hand corner. Click on the tab labeled Portfolio.
Paper copies of report cards will still be available at schools for parents who request them; interested parents should contact your child’s teacher.
What is Standards Based Reporting in Carroll ISD?
At the end of each grading period, your child will receive a number to indicate the progress level toward mastery on each objective assessed during that grading period. The number system is as follows:
3 = Mastered Expectation
The student has mastered this standard.
AND
The child consistently demonstrates mastery independently.
2 = Making Progress
The student needs help demonstrating mastery of this standard.
The student’s mastery of the standard fluctuates between different experiences.
1 = Below Grade Level Expectation
The student has not mastered the standard.
The student is performing below grade level expectations.
Other information:
Shaded Box = Not assessed at this time.
As parents, it is important to understand that standards may evolve in rigor and expectation to greater levels of difficulty throughout the year. If your child receives a 3 on a standard during a grading period, he/she may earn a 2 on the standard in subsequent reporting periods if the complexity of the standard has increased and your child hasn’t yet mastered the new level of expectation.
Students performing below a targeted level during the year may need additional support by the classroom teacher or others to help them achieve grade level expectations.
Teachers may assess objectives in a variety of ways. Formative assessments such as observations, conferences, response journals, participation in classroom/small group discussions will help give teachers information about a student's understanding of concepts and ideas. Summative assessments such as experiments, writing rubrics, work on math tasks, reading reflections, drawings of concepts or ideas with verbal explanations will be used to determine students’ progress on each learning objective through the use of a rubric. Teachers will keep notes and sample copies of students’ progress throughout the grading period.
