Great Body Shop - Health Instruction
Please be on the lookout for communication from your teachers about online access to The Great Body Shop, our Health Instructional materials. Teachers will be sharing access to the Family Portal and instructions on creating an account. This Portal will allow you to view the Student Issues that accompany each unit in Health, as well as the complete lesson plans for all Opt-Out Optional lessons and activities. In order to know which lessons to look for, you can refer to the opt-out forms sent at the beginning of health instruction each unit. Please note that ALL Opt-Out Optional lessons are available online, including ones that will not be addressed until later in the year. Thank you for your continued support!

Budget Update
On October 12, 2022, the Board of Directors received a presentation by Sherwood School District leadership on the financial status of the District in the 2022-23 school year, announcing that the District is facing a current budget deficit that will result in necessary reductions in the amount of $2.2 million in the current school year, as well as additional reductions in 2023-24 and beyond.
Following the District’s presentation, the Board voted to adopt the following three staff furlough dates:
March 24, 2023 (Friday before Spring Break)
June 15-16, 2023 (End of school year)
Approval of these dates also includes the following adjustments to the 2022-23 academic calendar:
Trimester 2 last day will change from Thursday, March 16 to Friday, March 10
Staff work day will change from Friday, March 17 to Monday, March 13
Last day of school for K-11 students will move from Thursday, June 15 to Tuesday, June 13
Staff work day will change from Friday, June 16 to Wednesday, June 14
Spring conferences will be canceled. Conference dates at elementary (May 11-12) and at middle school (April 14) will become full school days.
In the event that we have inclement weather school closures this year, we may use identified furlough dates as our weather “make up” days.

Focus on Attendance: Every Day Matters!
Sherwood School Districts’s chronic absenteeism rate has more than doubled since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Chronic absence (missing 10% or more of school) is an early warning sign that students are at risk of not reading proficiently by the end of third grade, struggling academically in middle school and dropping out of high school.
Getting back into the habit of daily attendance matters more than ever. As a district, we are committed to partnering with families to reduce chronic absenteeism. One step we will be taking is early communication to families notifying them of attendance concerns. If a student has missed more than 10% of the school year, the school will be reaching out to parents/guardians either with a phone call or a letter. Every day of school is an important opportunity for students to learn as well as connect with their peers and teachers.
Thank you for partnering with us to support your child to thrive and succeed in school through regular attendance. For tips on how to help your child build healthy attendance habits, see this helpful handout .
Character Trait of the Month: Empathy
Character Trait of the Month: EMPATHY. Mustang Sally says," let's be empathetic towards others!" Empathy is picturing yourself in someone else's shoes to understand the feelings of others. As the holiday season approaches, let's teach our students how to look out for other people's feelings. You can get involved in the community in several different ways. If you need volunteer ideas, reach out to Melissa Horton for ideas. gmpschorton@gmail.com. Ask your kids about METV and what they learned.
