The Beauty is Worth It
No matter what we are told by a rodent in Pennsylvania at the beginning of February, we know when spring starts in Texas. All you have to do is take a drive. The medians of highways and stretches of fields will be filled with pops of color full of the promise of change, growth, and invigoration.
As a lifelong resident, I may be biased, but there is something magical about Texas in spring.
However, with all of that beauty comes the suffering from the change and growth of all things botanical. The pollen that accompanies the flowers makes many people feel miserable. The greenish-golden hue it leaves spread all over our cars mocks us as our eyes water and sting, sinuses swell, and noses run.
It doesn't make the flowers any less beautiful.
We see the same things when we are in all of our campuses across the district. Everyday there is change and growth as your students learn to be the next version of the person that they are. The love and determination you pour into your students is invigorating to see. We also know that there is "pollen". We know there are things that make it uncomfortable and at times can feel impossible to function. We hope that you can remember that through the discomfort and momentary suffering those things can bring, the beauty that comes along with it is magical.

Ask Sam!
Do you have a question that you want to ask anonymously? Is there a situation you're just not sure how to handle? Are you afraid it's a dumb question (there are no dumb questions!).
No matter what it is, click here to ask Student Support Sam! They will answer in our next newsletter!
(This form does not collect your email address and your question will remain anonymous.)
Have you heard of Deserving Dollars?
We have been rolling out our Deserving Dollars to all campuses across the district. But, what are Deserving Dollars? This is our way to reinforce you for all of the amazing things you do.
You can trade these dollars in for fabulous prizes in our Deserving Dollars store! Once you have collected enough for the item you want, fill out the form attached to the QR code on the front of the dollar. Then, interoffice mail them to Baillie Smilie with Student Support Services with a note telling us your name and your campus.
Once we have that, we will get your prize to you as soon as possible.
Classroom Strategies
VIP Table
To earn a seat at the VIP table, students have to have good behavior for the week before to get their name on the wheel. The teacher will spin the wheel at the end of class on Friday to see who will earn a spot next week.
Each student's spot has a "reserved" sign with their name on it. If a student does not want to sit there, they can choose to have their name removed from the wheel.
While at the VIP table, if a student receives 3 or more conduct marks, they will lose their seat and it will remain empty for the remainder of the week.
