In preparation for April and Financial Literacy Month, our partners in education, USF Stavros Center, will provide this session to engage students with financial literacy activities that use film clips. These include connections to a variety of Disney film clips, with ready-to-use decision activities. In addition, we will present some activities connected to Discovery Educationβs Cha-Ching Money Smart Kids series, which map some of the videos to Florida Standards. These videos include music videos to share financial literacy concepts. Using these videos and a new Disney song, we will also illustrate how to work with your students to create their own lyrics about Financial Concepts. Professional development points will be provided. Reading Endorsement Fee Waivers and Supplement
Effective July 1, 2021, the Florida Department of Education requires all teachers providing intensive reading interventions to have the reading endorsement or coverage area on their certificate. The District is encouraging all teachers to add reading as an area of certification. To assist in this process, the District and USEP have agreed to reimburse teachers the cost of taking the reading exam and adding the reading endorsement to their certificate. In addition, the District will pay a one-time supplement to current instructional staff who added reading coverage to their certificate between the dates of July 1, 2018 β June 30, 2021.
Reimbursement Eligibility Requirements
For the 2021-2022 school year, the Board shall provide teachers with an exam fee reimbursement of $150 for a passing score on the reading certification exam taken July 1, 2021 β June 30, 2022, and an endorsement fee reimbursement of $75 for adding the reading endorsement coverage to their certificate between the dates of July 1, 2021 β June 30, 2022. To be eligible for the exam fee reimbursement, teachers are required to add the reading endorsement to their certificate.
Supplement Eligibility Requirements
Teachers currently in an instructional position who passed the reading certification exam OR completed the district reading in-service courses AND added reading coverage to their certificate between July 1, 2018 β June 30, 2022 are eligible for a one-time supplement of $225.
Employees meeting either the reimbursement or supplement requirements, should complete the Reading Endorsement Supplement form to receive the reimbursement or supplement payment. The Reading Endorsement Supplement form must be submitted by July 1, 2022, to be eligible for payment.
To take the reading exam, please click the following link to register: Register for Reading Endorsement Exam
The district recommends teachers attend a reading exam preparation session prior to taking this exam. More information regarding reading exam preparation can be found in myPGS under course code #4236 and section 30847
Question regarding the Reading Endorsement can be directed to our HREQ Certification Team. For Certification Specialist information, click CERTIFICATION SPECIALIST ASSIGNMENTS 8.19.2021.pdfβ
