STUDENT COUNCIL
VETERANS DAY
Learwood has had a long-standing tradition of honoring our Veterans. It has been a great program and is appreciated by our students, staff, parents, community members, and most importantly, the Veterans (including Learwood's own Mrs. Sarah Lee and Mr. Scott Peepers). This year we will be holding our recognition on Friday, November 11th. We also have several students whose parents have or are currently serving in the armed forces, including some who are currently deployed. Veterans Day is not a holiday, it is a time for remembrance. Remembrance of our freedoms, our past, and the sacrifices of those who chose our country over their own lives. If you or a family member are a Veteran and would like to join us for the breakfast and assembly, please RSVP to Mrs. Corbin by Tuesday, November 1st by email at corbins@alstudent.org.
UNITY DAY: WEAR ORANGE
Unity Day, the signature event of National Bullying Prevention Month (October), has been recognized in the United States since 2011. On Unity Day, individuals, schools, communities, and businesses are encouraged to wear or share orange to unite for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion to prevent students being bullied.
The ALCS will participate in a district-wide Unity Day Oct. 19 as all staff and students are encouraged to wear orange. Schools throughout the district will also have age-appropriate inclusion activities in their building. At Learwood, we will be wearing
ORANGE and viewing videos about Unity Day during our morning announcements.
HALLOWEEN
Halloween this year is on Monday and students are permitted to dress up for Halloween on Monday, 10/31/22, as long as the outfit is school appropriate. Fully painted faces and masks are not permitted (we need to be able recognize the student), no accessories that can be used as a weapon or be a safety issue, and clothing must meet school expectations of skin and undergarment exposure.
