Staff Development, January 10, 2023
Staff Development Day Information for Secondary Teachers-1/10/23
Based on staff surveys and feedback, we have decided to bring teachers together in person on January 10th and thanks to teacher leaders and partnerships, we have a robust list of offerings for staff to select from to attend from 8:30-11:00am. All sessions will start at 8:30 and conclude at 11:00am. Teachers will have from 11:00-12:00pm to have lunch (DRMS will provide lunch at the site) and travel back to their school sites for their afternoon site specific sessions from 12:00-3:00pm. More information on the DRMS SDD sessions to come.
To assist with a smooth day of learning, we ask that all staff register for a session by clicking HERE. If your entire site has decided to host a full day of PD, you do NOT need to register for a district session (please check with your administrator if you are not sure if this applies to you). In addition, there is a space for departments to select meeting as a team on their own campus instead of attending a district-provided session.
All sessions on 1/10 will be in person (unless otherwise noted) and information about locations will be sent out once registrations are confirmed. Some sessions will cap at 35 so please be sure to register sooner than later to ensure you are able to attend the session of your choice. Sessions will be filled in order of registration. If you register in a session with a cap and there is no space available, you will be contacted directly to select another session. If you do not register at all, you will be placed in the session with space available.

iReady Diagnostic 2 Opens on 12/12/22!
Attention all K-8 Teachers!
Diagnostic 2 for iReady will open on 12/12 and run through the first week in February. Below are a couple of important reminders:
- If a student starts a diagnostic (either in ELA or math), they need to complete it before winter break or the test will expire and they will have to retest when we return in the new year.
- If you do not want to have your students test until after winter break, remember to use the "HIDE ASSESSMENT" feature in the program. If you are uncertain or have forgotten how to do this, please contact your Site Education Technology Lead (SETL) for assistance.
- Please monitor your assessment sessions actively-ensure students are not receiving rush flags and that we are creating a testing environment that promotes students doing their best and that helps ensure valid assessment results.

AVID
AVID Strategy of the Month-Socratic Seminar
The Socratic method of teaching is a form of inquiry-based discourse focused on questioning to spur critical thinking and drive ideation. It is through exploration, dialogue, considering new perspectives, and constant questioning that students develop their critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Through Socratic Seminars, students develop confidence in articulating their ideas to others while providing supporting evidence with reasoned thinking. Students will come back again and again wanting to engage in another Socratic Seminar!
