Updated 8/31/22
Senior Class of 2023,
Welcome to senior year! It's the final chapter of your high school career with a lot of exciting celebrations, milestones, and fun. It is also your last year to explore and answer the question, "what am I doing after graduation?"
Time is ticking to make your move. Especially if you want to apply to 4-year colleges. (Those applications should be submitted by OCTOBER.)
While you definitely do not need to know what you want to do for the rest of your life upon your graduation, you do need a plan of what comes next. Graduating seniors in Osceola County are required to have a final, confirmed plan on file - whether that be committing a year to service, enlisting in the military, scoring a full-time job, or enrolling in a college or trade school.
I'm here to help you explore all of these options and assess which option best aligns with your goals and interests.
Remember, the best path to take after graduation is the one that best aligns with YOU. I look forward to helping you identify and work toward what that is.
Check out the resources on the College & Career Center website to learn more about SAT/ACT testing, applying to college, paying for school, military enlistment, preparing for a job hunt, 2-year colleges and tech schools, upcoming events, and more at College & Career Resources / Welcome (osceolaschools.net)
Stay safe and sane,
Mrs. Crotty
First things first... Beginning of Year Senior Survey
EVERY SENIOR MUST complete this survey ASAP! It should only take you 5-10 minutes. This helps me plan my College & Career programming for this school year as well as gather important information about your senior class. Please take a moment to complete it ASAP! --> https://forms.office.com/r/P5XFFLSM0m
Celebrating Your Success
Students are expected to report the following information to Mrs. Crotty (morgana.crotty@osceolaschools.net) by forwarding emails or stopping by the counseling office to show proof:
- Every college, technical, and trade school acceptance
- Every scholarship offer
- Every full-time job offer
- FAFSA confirmation pages
- Enlistment confirmation
Let's celebrate these major achievements! The first college acceptance, enlistment, or job offer you show Mrs. Crotty gets you a prize from the treasure chest - EVEN if it's not your final decision.

HBCU College Fair Field Trip
First come first serve, limited number of seats on the bus!
October 7th we will attend the HBCU fair at Advent Health Arena.
This is a HUGE fair with over 50 HBCUs!
See Mrs. Crotty for a permission slip (due ASAP)
HBCUs are a source of accomplishment and great pride for the African American community as well as the entire nation. The Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended, defines an HBCU as: “…any historically black college or university that was established prior to 1964, whose principal mission was, and is, the education of black Americans, and that is accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting agency or association determined by the Secretary [of Education] to be a reliable authority as to the quality of training offered or is, according to such an agency or association, making reasonable progress toward accreditation.” HBCUs offer all students, regardless of race, an opportunity to develop their skills and talents. These institutions train young people who go on to serve domestically and internationally in the professions as entrepreneurs and in the public and private sectors.
Scholarships
Exploring trades or a college education can be a great way to connect with even more career possibilities! However, the money it costs to fund these education programs can vary drastically.
Visit the Scholarships & Financial Aid page on the school website for helpful information to get you started. My advice= treat it like a job. The work is on you. Spend time looking for, reviewing, applying and following up on as many scholarships as you can. Search for small, narrow opportunities; there may only be a few hundred that apply for a nursing scholarship that requires an essay, while the Niche.com website that has no qualifications or essay required gets thousands of applicants, or more!
Follow @friendlyneighborhoodccc on Instagram and Facebook for even more scholarship options! He posts daily about opportunities to earn money for school and to learn more about colleges and careers!
ALL seniors should fill out a FAFSA starting in October.
Raise.me Scholarships
RAISE.ME UPDATE-
Advent Health University is now on Raise.me.
They will match what you earn in Raise.me at the minimum or offer you more in scholarships. You must follow them to be eligible.
WHAT IS RAISE.ME?
Our school is committed to providing our students with the best possible access to resources to pursue higher education. Because of this, we’re partnering with Raise.me so that students can start earning scholarship money for college starting as early as 9th grade. Raise.me currently partners with over 180 colleges around the country, with 2-3 new colleges being added each week. Any high school student in the United States can earn scholarships for their good grades, their involvement in sports and clubs, and their community service hours. Signing up for Raise.me is free and takes less than half an hour and could have a pay-out of tens of thousands of scholarship dollars for your college education. So basically, you make an account, you add your accomplishments and tasks and you earn small scholarships from the colleges you "follow."
Be sure to search for colleges, not all schools are "partners."
Community Service Hours for Bright Futures or other Scholarships
Don't wait until March to decided you need to do hours!
Don't forget to book your senior portraits with Prestige ASAP!
