Newsletter January 8, 2024
I hope this message finds you doing well and that everyone successfully dug out from yesterday's snow storm. We are in the final week before Midterms and the end of Semester 1. We had a wonderful Future Freshman Night last Thursday evening. It was great to see the NRHS class of 2028 and their families. The energy in the building was fantastic and a huge thank you goes out to all our students and staff who helped out.
We have an exciting week this week for our students with about 200 students participating in the DECA Districts Competition on Tuesday and Wednesday - Good Luck Nashoba!
Here is important information for the week ahead:
- Friday 1/12/24 - Early Release PD Day
- Monday 1/15/24 - No School MLK Day
- Tuesday 1/16/24 - Friday 1/19/24 Midterm Exams - LATE STARTS
- Thursday 1/18/24 - School Council - Virtual Meeting over Zoom
NRHS Student Recognized by the New York TImes!
Last fall, the New York Times posed the question: “What is school like in 2023?” Students and educators nationwide could use any medium to respond and nearly 4,000 of them did! Out of that enormous pool of submissions, Nashoba Regional High School’s senior, Jillian Kivi, was one of 17 students who received runner-up status with her short story, “Lunch on Tuesdays.” Through fictional characters in a cafeteria setting, Jillian explored the very real topic of fake friends and how young people compromise their personal integrity for fear of not fitting in.
In Jillian’s accompanying artist’s statement, she offered more insight on the topic: “If I could change one thing about school in 2023, it would be the judgments people project onto others. If we’re all less judgmental, and more open to peoples’ quirks and differences, the need to wear a mask will dissipate. We shouldn’t be constantly fretting that one little social miscue will cause our ‘status’ to plummet — it makes for a tense and unenjoyable environment. I believe that if we tone down the judgment and dial up the sympathy and inclusion, school will be much more bearable.”
Congratulations to Jillian!
Sophomore Class Fundraiser
Dear Nashoba Community,
Please support the NRHS Class of 2026! They are running a Sophomore class fundraiser through See's Candies to benefit the Class of 2026 at Nashoba Regional High School.
This fundraiser is for Valentine's Day and will run through January 26th. These boxes make a sweet treat for a college student away at school or a surprise for a friend or spouse - we hope you can support our cause and hopefully help to lower our student's cost to attend Prom next year!
Thank you!
Best,
Maura Bailey
