A Note from Dr. Hooks
Dear Hyde-Addison ES Families,
I hope this message finds you well. Yesterday, Mayor Bowser announced that school opening decisions for the DCPS 2020-2021 school year, are now scheduled to be shared on July 31, 2020. This will allow for the continued monitoring of COVID-19 related data. In addition, the Summer Bridge Program, for our 3rd grade students, will no longer be held in person and will be a virtual learning experience. Families who successfully completed the enrollment process, will receive additional information within the coming weeks.
Chancellor Ferebee outlined a potential Hybrid Learning model, for the fall, if identified health metrics support in-person learning.
- PK-5th grade students will be organized into cohorts, with a district average of approximately 11 students per group. (Pre-K cohort sizes may be smaller.)
- Students will engage in two days of in-person learning. Cohort A will tentatively attend on Mondays and Tuesdays. Cohort B will tentatively attend on Thursdays and Fridays.
- Students will engage in a virtual learning experience, to be determined, for the remaining 3 days.
- Wednesdays will be held for additional “Deep Cleanings”.
- Kindergarten-5th grade families will have the option to participate in the hybrid learning model or a 100% virtual learning model.
- Pre-K families will not have the 100% virtual learning model option.
As a result of these recent developments, the release of Hyde-Addison ES class assignments, supply lists and other information we typically share with our families during the summer, will be delayed until a determined time following the official DCPS 2020-2021 school opening announcement by Mayor Bowser or Chancellor Ferebee.
We thank you for your continued patience and support. We are in unprecedented times and our primary concern is for the safety of our students, staff and families. We are in this together and we will continue to persevere as a result of our strengthened collaboration. As new information becomes available, I will certainly share it with the Hyde-Addison ES community.
Please keep you and your loved ones safe. Continue to follow the guidance of Mayor Bowser and DC Health. For resources and information about the District of Columbia Government’s coronavirus (COVID-19) response and recovery efforts, please visit coronavirus.dc.gov.
Kindest Regards,
Dr. Calvin Hooks, Principal

PTA ANNOUNCEMENTS
We are excited to welcome you (back) to the Hyde-Addison community!
Your involvement with the Hyde-Addison Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) – which includes all families of students enrolled at Hyde and requires no membership dues – helps make our school stronger and successful. For the 2020-21 school year, we will be continuing our tradition of fun and community-oriented activities for everyone, with adjustments necessary given the current conditions.
As we all adjust to school in the time of COVID, your support of the Hyde-Addison community is more important than ever! There are many ways to make your financial contributions, 100% of which will go directly to support our students and staff.
To stay connected to the PTA and informed about activities, events, and other important news, we invite you to sign up for the Hyde-Addison Families mail group, where we can ask questions, share information, and discuss issues relevant to our students and the school community.
Thank you in advance for your participation and support, and we look forward to seeing you all, virtually or otherwise, in a few weeks!
Sincerely,
2020-21 PTA Executive Board
