Military Career Virtual Event

We are pleased to partner with other community colleges in Iowa to offer High School Military Career Virtual Event to be held on March 9 from 8:45-11:20. The event will feature speakers from all branches with the military along with career information. See attached. Please encourage any students who may be considering a career in the military to register. Students should let Mrs. Brechwald know and sign up via the registration link shared with students. HERE

Planning and Paying for College and Career - Regional Event for NW Iowa Schools

Hello, Families!

You are invited to a Virtual Presentation (Zoom Webinar) on “Planning and Paying for College and Career” to be held on March 15, at 6:00 p.m. This virtual presentation will be done by Mary Joan Dougherty, former NW Iowa ICAN Advisor. This is suggested for high school sophomores and juniors and their parents/guardians. Topics included in this presentation are:

Scheduling for next year

Students will be working on schedules in the upcoming months for next year. You can view their transcript in JMC. Students wishing to take college classes will be sent information with the dates they can come in to work on scheduling for those. Likely that will be in April. This is dependent upon when ILCC releases their courses and when ELC's course offerings are updated for next fall.
Event Information

Accuplacer testing for current 10th and 11th graders

The Accuplacer is a placement test that determines your eligibility for college level classes at the community college. If students plan take college classes in the next year or two please sign up to take this test. ILCC will be coming to administer the test to our students. If you do not take it when we offer it then it is students responsibility to set this up independently with ILCC Success Center on students own time. These tests must be done before students are allowed to register for any college classes next year. ILCC will come adminsiter the test at ELC on April 8th. I will send out more information to those who sign up to test. If students have taken the ACT they may use those scores in place of the Accuplacer. If students are considering ILCC in the future it is a good idea to take these tests now to see how they do as they will need them at some point. Students were sent an email to sign up for this testing.

ISASP Testing

ELC High School students will take their Iowa Statewide Assessments Monday March 22nd and Tuesday March 23rd. At the high school students in grades 9-11 will test. The data from these tests are used for various items but one in particular for high school students is that students who test proficient on these assesments and meet ILCC's eligiblity criteria will have the option to take college classes.

ACT Testing

Students wishing to take the ACT test? See the available test dates and register HERE! If you are free/reduced or TRIO participant you may be eligible for a waiver. Check with Mrs. Brechwald or your TRIO sponsor.

Scholarships

MOST of the local scholarships are due April 15th! Students have received many emails regarding this. Some have different deadlines and locations they need to be turned in to so please be checking on this.


Those considering ILCC should be filling out the ILCC online scholarship application which is also on this site! Reminder there is one for Juniors from ILCC as well. The ILCC online app is due March 1st!


Also be checking with colleges to see if they have other opportunities as well as places of employement and scholarship search engines.
